An opportunity came quickly.

Less than three days after walking wherever their feet took them, Stella was able to confirm with her own eyes the existence of the heretic she had been eagerly awaiting.

‘The divine truly guided us.’

Stella smiled a pure smile as she saw a group of humans in the distance, engaged in a serious conversation.

It was a smile that looked genuinely innocent and kind.

Although the true nature behind it was completely different.

It was a smile that couldn’t contain her joy, filled with thoughts of torturing the heretic, even though the scent of the demon wafting in the wind reached her from such a distance.

There was no mistake.

The one man mixed among the three women.

It was clear that he was the one who had broken the demon’s seal.

‘But it’s strange…’

Her green eyes surveyed the surroundings of the heretic.

The blue-haired woman and the red-haired woman with serious expressions, and the pink-haired woman who was leaning against a tree, looking weak and limp.

They were all familiar faces.

They were the knight commanders of the Silver Dawn Knights, known as the elite knights who protected the Imperial Palace.

Stella was confident that her eyes weren’t deceiving her.

But why were such individuals accompanying a devil worshipper?

It wasn’t coercion or deception.

Those women were acting together with the devil worshipper of their own free will.

And they even showed considerable familiarity.

‘Further confirmation is needed.’

Putting aside Cecilia, whose personality was a bit, or rather, quite messed up, but she definitely wasn’t someone who would summon a demon, her subordinates were different.

Perhaps, in places out of Cecilia’s sight, the heretical acts of devil worshippers were secretly taking place.

She should request an investigation from the Inquisitor later.

With that thought, Stella changed the smile on her face to be even more innocent and walked towards the heretic who had already noticed her presence.

“It seems you need help?”

◇◇◇◆◇◇◇

‘…Who is she?’

I raised my guard to the maximum.

I had never experienced an event where someone approached the player right after the boss fight with Arachnae.

So, for me, what would happen next was also uncharted territory.

Hoping it might help in identifying her identity, I carefully observed the woman.

Wavy golden hair gracefully curved and enveloped her collarbone and shoulders.

Her bangs also covered her eyebrows and eyes.

Through those bangs, green eyes sparkled faintly.

But what drew attention more than anything else was the nun’s robe with a considerably high level of exposure.

A semicircular white cloth covered her shoulders, and a triangular chest cover extending from that semicircular cloth barely covered her breasts, which were as large as her own head.

Of course, there were no strings or clothes to hold it in place.

It seemed like if the wind blew from the side, her breasts would be directly exposed.

Her underboob and sideboob were already almost fully exposed.

The cloth on her sides was cut nearly up to her solar plexus, revealing bare skin.

Where the side slits were, there was literally nothing.

Not even a string that looked like underwear existed.

The only thing covering her intimate areas was the long, flowing skirt of the nun’s robe, and above her chest, a buckle was tightly fastened, further accentuating her already enormous breasts.

Her thighs were clad in black stockings made of mesh, and high heels were worn on her feet.

‘…It seems like an NPC from the Holy Kingdom, but I don’t know beyond that.’

With the appearance modification mod applied, the nun NPCs from the Holy Kingdom, who had changed from priests to nuns, might have had such attire.

My memory was hazy since it was a long time ago.

At least the clothes of the nun NPCs I knew didn’t have such an outrageous level of exposure.

They were at least recognizable as nun’s robes at a glance.

Moreover, why would priests from the Holy Kingdom appear in front of Arachnae’s boss room?

What business did they have here?

“Help? Us?”

Lizé displayed an even sharper aura.

If she made any reckless moves, it seemed she would clash weapons with the woman in front of her.

Erica’s atmosphere was also quite menacing.

“Yes, of course. The condition of the person behind you seems quite critical, doesn’t it?”

The blonde woman pointed at Claudia with her finger.

Seeing that gesture, Lizé flared up and retorted.

“Don’t point your finger at Claudia so casually. Consider this a warning.”

“A warning? You’re warning me? Did you just say you’re warning me? Pfft, hahaha!”

Suddenly, the atmosphere around the blonde woman changed.

Holding her smooth, lean belly, she laughed heartily with a voice that seemed to be choking, and after finally stopping her laughter, she wiped the tears that had gathered in the corners of her eyes while panting.

“Ahem… Ah, it’s been a long time since I laughed this hard. A warning? To me? Ah, it’s been so long since I’ve seen a heretic with such spirit.”

‘…Heretic?’

Upon hearing that word, an NPC immediately came to mind.

Heretic.

And a nun’s robe.

“But a joke is a joke. The rest is a separate matter.”

Stella raised her hand.

As if responding to that, the sound of trees being shattered began to be heard from somewhere.

I unconsciously looked behind the woman, in the direction of the sound.

The source of the sound was a flail.

A flail with a weight at the end, about the size of two human heads combined, was flying towards the blonde woman, smashing everything in its path as if it were a solid lump of iron.

The blonde woman casually caught the flail, which looked terrifying at a glance, with one hand as it flew towards her.

A loud clang echoed through the forest.

As soon as I saw that, I realized the identity of the blonde woman.

There was only one person who used such a distinctive flail.

‘The Inquisitor…!’

The supreme and strongest military force directly led by the Pope of the Sun.

It had to be the commander of that group, the Inquisitor.

I hadn’t noticed because her appearance was vastly different from what I remembered.

‘Why has the Inquisitor come all the way here?’

I had figured out the identity of the blonde woman, but I still had no idea why she had come all the way here.

Although combat priests from the Holy Kingdom could be encountered a few times while wandering around the Empire, the Inquisitor, like the two Popes, never left the Holy Kingdom.

Something was strange.

“I am Stella, the Inquisitor directly under the Pope of the Sun. And you are heretics who worship demons.”

Clang!

Stella spoke as she held the flail vertically.

Even though she seemed to have slightly lowered it, the weight sank halfway into the ground.

I looked around.

If the Inquisitor directly under the Pope of the Sun was here, perhaps the Inquisitor directly under the Pope of the Moon might also be present.

If one had come, what was stopping the other from coming as well?

As the number of simultaneous opponents increased, the difficulty rose exponentially in the combat characteristics of Brightest Darkness 4.

Even for me, I wasn’t confident in facing two bosses at the same time.

“Did you think you could unleash a demon that the nun’s of the Holy Kingdom had sacrificed their lives to seal and not pay the price for that sin?”

As soon as we heard the word “demon,” we all flinched collectively.

It was because not only I but also the knight commanders knew about the plan I had devised to kill the lord.

Putting everything else aside, it was true that we had been involved with a demon.

However, it wasn’t that we had worshipped a demon or tried to summon one into the world, but it seemed that such minor details weren’t very important to the Inquisitor in front of us.

“We won’t deny that we have been involved with a demon. However, we have never committed any acts that would warrant being branded as heretics by the Holy Kingdom. Rather, we are also closer to being victims. That is something Her Majesty the Emperor has personally confirmed. Lower your weapon.”

Erica calmly tried to persuade Stella, pointing the tip of her sword towards the ground to indicate that she had no intention of fighting.

We had no time to waste on a fight here as we needed to treat Claudia as soon as possible, and it was best to avoid a conflict with the Holy Kingdom as much as possible.

Although we had been dragged all the way to the outskirts of the Empire, the Silver Dawn Knights were still effectively serving the Emperor.

If handled carelessly, it could even escalate into a diplomatic issue.

But it was all in vain.

Stella smiled brightly and raised the weight of her flail towards us.

“You seem to be greatly mistaken. It is not the role of heretics to judge whether they are guilty or not.”

The sound of footsteps was heard from all directions.

Erica, startled, raised her sword again.

Women in nun’s robes similar to Stella’s, but with a slightly lower level of exposure, had surrounded us.

I had no notable intuition, and Claudia’s condition was not normal due to being poisoned, so it was understandable, but it was puzzling how they had managed to surround us without even Lizé and Erica’s senses noticing.

Crack, this time the weight of the flail pointed at me.

“The price for breaking the seal of a demon can only be judged by the divine.”

“…Aha. So, you’re going to kill us all now?”

“If there is sin, you will die; if there is no sin, you will live. If you are truly not involved with demons, the divine will save you. But…”

The eyelids surrounding her green eyes curved like a crescent moon.

“Can you really survive?”

“Why do you think we can’t?”

The atmosphere between Lizé and Stella changed as if it could ignite at any moment.

They looked like they would charge at each other right then and there.

“Inquisitor. You seem to be greatly mistaken about something. If we had truly done that, Her Majesty the Emperor would have already executedㅡ?!”

A white light burst forth from Stella’s hand.

Lizé and Erica simultaneously covered their eyes.

Only I, who knew what that white light was, quickly rolled to the side to dodge it.

Seeing me avoid the light, Stella’s smile became even more menacing.

I knew what misunderstanding she was having.

Since I had avoided the light formed by sacred power, she was convinced that I was truly a devil worshipper.

A normal person would have just covered their eyes and endured it.

‘What am I supposed to do if I get hit by that and get a status ailment?’

It was impossible to fight and win against the battle nuns while carrying a status ailment from being hit by a sacred attack.

If I had more time, I would have warned the other two, but unfortunately, time was scarce.

I calmly looked around, aiming the blood-stained sword.

The total number of battle nuns was twelve.

It wasn’t an impossible number to defeat as long as we weren’t surrounded from all sides.

It was just that avoiding being surrounded was insanely difficult.

“Yeah. Let’s give it a try, shall we?”

Lizé, enveloped in ice all over her body, was the first to charge at Stella.

As long as the Inquisitor was convinced that we were devil worshippers, a fight was inevitable.

It was either they died or we died, one of the two.

That was the kind of existence an Inquisitor was.

Erica also seemed to have given up on persuasion as she firmly gripped her weapon with both hands and stuck close to my side, vigilant of the surroundings.

She seemed to have realized that the only remaining option was to fight.

Lizé closed the distance in an instant.

The tip of her blade aimed precisely at Stella’s neck.

It was a clean attack without any unnecessary movements.

However, the problem was that Lizé was afflicted with a status ailment due to the previous white light.

Before I could stop Lizé, knowing that, the dagger had already pierced her neck.

ㅡSplurt!

“You can’t kill me with something like this, you know?”

To be precise, it had tried to pierce.

Stella stood there unfazed, even though she had been directly hit by Lizé’s attack.

Although having HP meant that a critical injury wouldn’t be inflicted with a single attack, this was a different concept altogether.

It was closer to not taking any damage at all.

Seeing Stella unharmed, Lizé immediately followed up with the next attack.

This time, it was the right eye.

The dagger in her left hand stabbed into Stella’s right eye.

“Didn’t I tell you?”

“…!”

However, even though the dagger was clearly piercing the eyeball, Stella had a calm expression.

Rather, Lizé’s arm trembled as if she had put too much force into the attack.

“You can’t kill me with something like this.”

The blade with a bluish hue was blocked by Stella’s eyeball.

I was lured by an invitation email to the beta test of the sequel to the game I’ve been playing for the past 10 years. To my surprise, all the mods I’ve installed over the years were still there. Everything from enemy enhancement mods to NPC gender swap and appearance retouching mods were intact. Even mods for changing the characters’ outfits were still in place. *Takes inspiration from Sekiro + Soulsborne series.

Yeah, never really like stubborn sh*thead like these zealots. They seem to have 0 experience in talking with people, can’t listen or understand anyone who isn’t their fellow worshipper . Even if their purpose is good or for humanity, but they are so frickin stubborn and inflexible.
