“Hello, student Yoo Hee-won.”

After I returned her greeting, Yoo Hee-won stood before me, looking up like a cat, and spoke.

“You look especially well today.”

“Do I? Perhaps it’s because the weather is getting warmer.”

“When will you meet with me?”

Yoo Hee-won, still smiling, pressed me directly.

“When would be a good time? And what is the reason for the meeting?”

“Just this and that.”

“Hmm. Well, my schedule is full today, so how about tomorrow or the day after?”

“Let’s do it today.”

“No, I can’t today. And please don’t block the entrance.”

I gently pushed Yoo Hee-won’s shoulder to the side.

Because she was blocking the entrance, the other students couldn’t enter the classroom and were standing in the hallway.

However, already aware of Yoo Hee-won’s background and abilities, they didn’t dare say anything to her and just exchanged glances.

It hadn’t even been a month since the semester started, but the power dynamics were already apparent.

By now, there were probably some shrewd students who had already aligned themselves with Yoo Hee-won.

This year’s class would likely be filled with conflicts and trouble caused by them.

Sure enough, as Yoo Hee-won moved aside, several other students quickly entered the classroom and gathered behind her.

◇◇◇◆◇◇◇

Unlike the previous classroom, today’s lecture hall was on a flat surface.

The teaching assistants had removed all the desks, and small mats were laid out for each student.

The students, bewildered by the unfamiliar scene, cautiously claimed a mat for themselves.

Yoo Hee-won stood at the very front, surrounded by her entourage as if they were guarding her.

“Hello, everyone.”

I stood at the podium, greeted them, and looked around at the students.

“Are you all adjusting well to academy life?”

Affirmative responses came from here and there.

“Very good. Then please sit on the mats in front of you. Like this.”

I sat cross-legged on the mat on the podium, and the students, although puzzled, followed suit.

“Don’t take out your books. You won’t learn anything even by reading them all day. At least, that’s true for Basic Defense Studies.”

After confirming that all the students were seated on their mats and had put their bags aside, I continued.

“As I mentioned in the first lecture, the foundation of defense is a calm mind. If your mental state is unstable, your barrier will be unstable as well.”

At my words, the students exchanged uneasy glances.

I could hear their inner voices without them having to ask.

“Is he going to make us meditate with our eyes closed…?”

Half right, half wrong.

I would have them meditate, but not in the conventional way.

“Now, everyone, close your eyes and calm your minds.”

At my signal, four teaching assistants entered the classroom.

The students’ eyes widened in shock as they saw the sturdy metal pipes in the assistants’ hands.

“Don’t worry. Those are just tools to help students who have difficulty focusing on the lecture.”

“Is he going to hit us with those if we doze off?”

Someone protested.

This was the advanced class.

They were mostly children from influential families who were used to getting their way.

But that was only outside the academy walls.

Here, the professor was in charge.

“Hit? Let’s choose our words carefully. They’re simply tools to enhance participation in the lecture.”

“That’s the same thing! It means you’re going to hit us!”

Similar protests erupted from all directions.

“Everyone, be quiet!”

Yoo Hee-won snapped from the front row.

The students, who had been on the verge of revolt just moments ago, suddenly fell silent and looked at Yoo Hee-won.

Yoo Hee-won, who had been glaring at the students with a murderous look, then turned to me with a smile.

“Professor, I have a question.”

“Go ahead.”

“My uniform top is a bit uncomfortable and might distract me. May I take it off?”

“Do as you please.”

As soon as I finished speaking, Yoo Hee-won took off her uniform top.

Not only that, but she also removed her shirt, revealing a white t-shirt.

Her black bra was visible beneath the t-shirt, and Yoo Hee-won, as if showing off, stretched and pushed her chest out towards me.

It was such an obvious and embarrassing move that I pretended not to see.

“Let’s begin.”

The students, nervous after the menacing entrance of the teaching assistants and Yoo Hee-won’s outburst, quickly straightened their posture and closed their eyes.

Very good.

Perhaps because it was the advanced class, the students followed my instructions well as they meditated.

By the end of the lecture, a few of them had even managed to create something resembling a barrier using their Aura, albeit faintly.

Yoo Hee-won had even succeeded in visualizing it.

Visualizing invisible Aura was something that was usually only possible for graduating students. Her talent was truly remarkable.

“That’s all for today. When you return to your dormitories, practice what we did today before going to bed. At some point, you’ll get a sense of being able to touch your Aura.”

The next lecture was with the lower-level class, which included Han Min-ha.

Han Min-ha was huddled on a mat in the far corner.

As the teaching assistants with metal pipes entered, the students raised their hands and protested, just like the advanced class.

I gave them the same answer and immediately started the meditation.

The beginning was good.

With teaching assistants wielding metal pipes lurking around, no one would dare be inattentive from the start.

But it didn’t last long.

About fifteen minutes in, there was the first student who required assistance from the “tools.”

“Ugh…!”

A student, dozing off, was hit squarely in the back with a metal pipe, groaned, and slumped forward.

“Straighten your back, student. You can’t become a hero if you collapse from something like that.”

“Y-yes, Professor…”

Startled by the sudden noise, the students who were just about to drift off straightened their shoulders.

“Good. Now, listen to me and follow along.”

I walked among the students, gently explaining how to control their Aura.

Aura was an energy that everyone with heroic talent possessed.

It was usually imperceptible but could be sensed and controlled through training.

Aura grew stronger with training and practice, enabling the formation of barriers, and the use of abilities like death rays and sonic booms.

So, try to feel the Aura flowing through your body.

Imagine yourself submerged in thick, dense jelly, and it would be easier to sense, and so on.

However, unlike the advanced class, the lower-level students seemed to be struggling.

More than half of them were groaning, frowning, or shifting uncomfortably.

Mixed in were the sounds of metal pipes hitting flesh and muffled cries.

This was… the difference in skill level was stark.

As I continued walking while explaining, I eventually reached Han Min-ha, who was sitting at the very back of the classroom.

Han Min-ha seemed to be struggling to sense her Aura, her face contorted in concentration.

Sweat dripped down her forehead, plastering her hair to her skin, and her glasses were sliding down her nose.

As I stopped beside her, Han Min-ha opened her eyes slightly and looked up.

Our eyes met, and she quickly lowered her head in surprise.

I silently checked the Aura flowing around her.

Contrary to my expectations, her Aura was remarkably dense.

The purity of her Aura itself seemed to be high.

So, this was the benefit of being a hero family bonus points recipient.

The Administration hadn’t granted her admission privileges for nothing.

With proper guidance, she could become quite formidable.

◇◇◇◆◇◇◇

After finishing all my lectures, I briefly stopped by the faculty room to check my schedule for the next day and then went up to my lab.

I had to enter the results of today’s lectures into the faculty system and finish up some other tasks.

As I walked towards my lab on the second floor, I saw someone standing in front of it.

“Professor Kyo?”

Yoo Hee-won greeted me with a smile.

“Student Yoo Hee-won. What is it? Isn’t it time for physical training?”

“But I have something important to tell you, Professor Kyo. I thought it had to be today, so I came here.”

“No. Go to physical training. I told you I couldn’t meet today.”

I walked past Yoo Hee-won and reached for the doorknob of my lab.

At that moment, Yoo Hee-won reached out to grab my wrist.

Just as her hand was about to touch my wrist, the barrier I had activated blocked her hand forcefully.

The Aura surrounding Yoo Hee-won’s hand collided with the barrier, creating a brief but intense spark.

“Ugh…!”

Yoo Hee-won quickly pulled her hand back, rubbing her tingling wrist with a disappointed expression.

Impressive. She could already manipulate her Aura like that.

But more importantly…

I smiled and looked directly at Yoo Hee-won.

“Student Yoo Hee-won. What are you trying to do?”

Curious what her deal is. Unless the plot was quite out there, she seems way too assertive to be a typical protagonist in this sort of story. Did she get possessed too? Or is this one of those scenarios where the character has hidden depths that weren’t shown in the original?
