(T/N – The whole chapter is in third person. Just a head’s up.)

“Kuwaaa!!!!”

The supermarket’s first floor had been breached.

The Ha brothers, Kim Il-woo, Kim Min-joon, Lee Eun-hye, Kang Eun-jeong, and the others had been defending the first floor.

The other Awakened and survivors Jang Jo-joon had captured before leaving for the Black Market were also trying to hold back the zombies pouring through the entrance.

But they were no match for their overwhelming numbers.

“Damn it!!!!”

Kim Il-woo swung the bastard sword he obtained from hunting a special zombie at the Revenant that had smashed through the entrance.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The Revenant raised its greatsword and unleashed a triple-slash attack. Kim Il-woo barely managed to block it, but he lost his balance and was pushed back by the shockwave the Revenant emitted.

“Argh!!!”

Just as Kim Il-woo lost his balance…

Another Revenant appeared from the side and bisected him.

Kim Il-woo’s severed body flew through the air, scattering his innards as he fell into the midst of the zombies.

“Il-woo!!! Oh no!! Fuck!!!!”

Kim Il-woo, who had been holding a section of the front line, was cut in half and died. Dozens of zombies swarmed his corpse, devouring his flesh and innards.

The death of the level 14 Warrior increased the burden on the other Awakened.

The tide had turned.

Morale plummeted.

Soon, another scream echoed.

It was Kim Min-joon, who was captured by two Draugr.

He had been running around while shooting arrows, but he was hit by a Wraith’s mental attack, stunned, and captured by two Draugr.

The Draugr mocked the struggling Kim Min-joon and started pulling his head and body apart.

Crack. Rip…!

“Argh!!! It hurts, it hurts, it hurts!!!! Help me!! Help!!! Fuck, fuck, fuck!!! Please!!! Help me!! Help!!!”

Rip!!!

With a desperate scream, his head was ripped off. Blood gushed from his dangling spine.

“R-run!!! Run!! Argh!!!!”

Ha Jin-seong, witnessing the deaths of two companions in an instant, panicked and forgot his role as a leader.

The same was true for the others.

The Awakened started fleeing, and the remaining non-Awakened were mixed in with the zombies, becoming chunks of meat.

“Argh!!!”

Lee Eun-hye’s head was crushed by a Draugr’s punch, and Revenants swarmed her fallen body, tearing her apart.

Screams filled the air. The supermarket was overrun.

The survivors were being slaughtered by the relentless zombie attacks.

There were no cases of being bitten and turning into a zombie.

Those who fell were mangled beyond recognition, unable to even become zombies.

◇◇◇◆◇◇◇

Fortunately, the rooftop hadn’t been breached yet.

But if this continued, they would all die.

‘Not enough Magic…’

That was her biggest problem. No matter how many Lee Eun-ji killed, the number of enemies didn’t decrease.

Even if she conserved her Magic and used fewer skills, even if they took turns resting and recovering their Magic, it still wasn’t enough.

They had lost their advantage after the Zombie Centipede broke through and they had to fight the evolved zombies that had climbed up on it.

From then on, they had to relentlessly defend against the zombie rush.

‘Can we even survive tonight…?’

Everyone was exhausted. And so was she. Lee Eun-ji, who had been running around to intervene whenever things got dangerous and coordinated the battle, felt like her leg muscles were about to burst.

Han Ah-ram, who had just annihilated five Revenants simultaneously, had completely exhausted her Magic and asked for help, barely surviving thanks to Han Ah-reum’s timely intervention.

Sung Ha-rin and Kang Hee-sun, who had been fighting dozens of Draugr, were also on the verge of death after being hit by the mental attacks of the Wraiths that had crawled onto the rooftop. They would have been in serious trouble if Kang Ha-young hadn’t helped them.

The rooftop was even more dangerous than below.

‘Ye-won’s beast summon… is almost over…’

Kim Ye-won, who Awakened as an Unholy Queen, could summon beasts and enhance them with various buff skills, but it wasn’t enough. Kang Hee-sun’s lesser spirits weren’t of much help in combat either.

‘There are too many… How did I not notice them gathering until now…?’

The first day of the update, Monday, had been quiet. They had been able to spend it more peacefully than expected.

There had been no significant changes on Tuesday either. It had been so quiet that they thought they could spend the entire week like that.

Until then, the people in the supermarket had just been waiting for Jang Jo-joon’s return, spending their days as usual.

They had assumed he was still alive since his orders were still in effect.

They had noticed that the number of zombies on the streets had decreased significantly. They had found it strange but hadn’t paid much attention. They had just assumed that they had killed that many.

‘And then Wednesday… tonight…’

Eun-ji had seen how systematically the zombie horde had approached them, like an organized army. It was as if someone had given them orders to attack.

They had just been hiding underground. The zombies that had gathered in the sewers had all emerged at night by opening the manhole covers.

The calmness of the past two days had been like the ocean receding before a tsunami.

Draugr, Revenants, Wraiths… and their leader.

‘Ghouls…’

They were controlling the zombies.

They had gathered the zombies on the streets and formed an army.

They had hidden thousands of zombies in the sewers, deceiving the people in the supermarket.

Now that they had gathered enough, the Ghouls had unleashed their horde of undead, intending to wipe out the supermarket.

There were too many zombies attacking them.

No matter how many they killed, there was no end in sight.

They might not be able to hold on until Jang Jo-joon returned.

“Kuwaa!!!!”

Just then, she saw the supermarket entrance being completely breached by Revenants.

‘Can the people on the first floor hold on…? They can’t… Damn it.’

They had been luring the zombies towards the rooftop until now, but since that had become impossible, the burden had shifted back to the first floor.

As she had feared, the people fighting on the first floor rushed up to the rooftop.

“Fuck!!!”

Ha Jin-seong, reaching the rooftop, collapsed on the floor and retched.

Ha Jin-woo and Kang Eun-jeong, who had followed him, blocked the entrance.

“What’s going on!!? Where are the others?!”

Kang Hee-sun asked them.

Ha Jin-seong shook his head violently and answered between gasps,

“I-il-woo… is dead… Fuck… Min-joon and Eun-hye too… Everyone’s dead except for us three!!!”

Ha Jin-seong trembled at the deaths of his companions.

The faces of those fighting on the rooftop turned pale.

All the Awakened defending the first floor except for the three of them were dead.

Ha Jin-woo shouted at them, snapping them out of their daze.

“Fuck!!! Get a grip!!! We just have to hold on until Hyung-nim returns!!”

At his words, the others started moving again.

Intercepting the zombies climbing the outer walls of the rooftop, blocking the objects thrown by the zombies…

But there was no way to deal with the dark magic cast by the Wraiths, and the supermarket was being destroyed in real time. Hwang Soo-min was returning fire, but she could only barely keep them in check due to their overwhelming numbers.

“Ah!! They’re here!!! They’re coming up!!!”

The rooftop access door rattled.

Ha Jin-woo and Kang Eun-jeong tried to block the entrance with their bodies, but…

Crash!!

The entrance burst open, sending Ha Jin-woo and Kang Eun-jeong flying.

The rooftop access door was smashed open by a greatsword, and Revenants swarmed in.

“Hey!!! Sacrifice one!!!”

Just then, Kang Ha-young grabbed one of the non-Awakened on the rooftop, extracted all their blood, and then, scattering the blood around, unleashed a series of Blood Bursts.

Boom!!!!

The areas stained with blood exploded, killing the zombies crawling through the rooftop entrance and piling up their corpses.

The rooftop entrance collapsed, and the zombies following behind were crushed by the debris while screaming.

She had temporarily blocked the entrance by destroying it, preventing the zombies from entering, but they didn’t know when it would be breached again.

“F-fuck…”

Kang Ha-young knelt slightly. She had dealt with the immediate threat, but her Magic had been depleted. She trembled from extreme hunger.

Her mind had become slightly clearer after receiving the Womb Engraving and becoming Jang Jo-joon’s complete subordinate. And she no longer needed to drink as much blood. It was definitely a good thing. But she couldn’t quench her hunger with anything other than Jang Jo-joon’s blood anymore.

Kang Ha-young fainted, unable to endure any longer after five days without a proper meal.

Lee Eun-ji, catching the collapsing Kang Ha-young, blasted the upper body of a Zombie Centipede climbing the rooftop with Shadow Thorn while gasping for breath.

A complete disaster. Ha Jin-seong muttered as he looked at their desperate situation.

“It’s over… It’s all over…”

Ha Jin-seong had lost his will to fight.

He had seen Kim Il-woo being bisected and his innards spilling out after just a few exchanges.

He had seen Kim Min-joon’s head being ripped off and Lee Eun-hye’s face being crushed by a Draugr’s punch.

He had seen several of Jang Jo-joon’s enslaved Awakened dying without even putting up a fight.

‘Why… this disaster…’

This was the apocalypse.

A hopeless disaster was washing over them like a wave, trying to take everything from the supermarket.

And then it happened.

A pure white door appeared right in front of Ha Jin-seong and burst open.

Bang!

The opening door hit the head of Ha Jin-seong, who had been looking down in defeat.

“Ow!”

“Hey. What are you doing there?”

A familiar voice reached Ha Jin-seong, who had been waiting for his impending death.

“Huh…?”

“Damn it, get out of the way. You’re blocking the door.”

Ha Jin-seong awkwardly moved aside.

The door opened wide, and Jang Jo-joon, who had been missing for five days, and a tall, unknown woman walked out.

“H-hyung-nim…!!!”

“Hey. What’s all this?”

“W-well…!”

Tears welled up in Ha Jin-seong’s eyes as he saw Jang Jo-joon’s face after so long.

He had arrived just when they were about to die.

“Oppa!!!!”

Eun-ji quickly ran and clung to Jang Jo-joon after putting Kang Ha-young down.

‘Oppa… is here…!’

Eun-ji, who had been thinking that they were all going to die just moments ago, felt an immense relief wash over her as she saw Jang Jo-joon’s face.

In Eun-ji’s mind, Jang Jo-joon was already a savior. An absolute powerhouse who always found a way to survive, no matter how bleak the situation.

Unaware of his Luck stat and his abnormal luck, Jang Jo-joon was becoming increasingly deified in Eun-ji’s mind.

“What’s going on, Eun-ji? Explain the situation.”

“Ah, okay!”

Eun-ji wiped her tears and quickly explained the desperate situation.

Meanwhile, Ah-ram and Ha-rin bought them time by killing the zombies that were emerging from the collapsed rooftop entrance.

Jang Jo-joon listened to her explanation and looked around at the people on the rooftop.

They were all in a sorry state. Kang Hee-sun’s clothes were half-torn, and she had wounds on her arm. Ah-reum had collapsed on the floor, seemingly from exhaustion.

Ha-rin and Ah-ram were barely holding on, and Eun-ji, despite smiling, was on the verge of collapse, her leg muscles cramping.

Kang Ha-young had fainted, and Kim Ye-won was vomiting blood while trying to summon beasts with her depleted Magic.

Eun-ji told Jang Jo-joon that an update had occurred, absurd monsters were swarming the supermarket, many people had died, and that the remaining people on the rooftop were all that was left.

Several members who had been with them since the early days of occupying the supermarket were also dead.

The only consolation was that all the members of Jang Jo-joon’s slave harem were safe.

Jang Jo-joon quickly cut his finger, squeezed out some of his blood, and put it into Kang Ha-young’s mouth.

“Ugh… Mmm… Slurp… Sweet… Huh…?”

Kang Ha-young’s eyes opened as she licked the blood.

“M-master!!!!”

Jang Jo-joon, receiving the greeting of Kang Ha-young, whose Stamina and Magic had slightly recovered from his blood, immediately raised both of hands, unleashed Abyssal Maw, and destroyed the zombies trying to climb onto the rooftop with tentacles.

But it wasn’t enough to block them all. There were too many.

Just then, a window with the update details finally appeared before him.

Update Complete!

You’ve survived!

You must have accumulated more than 100,000 coins.

You must have hunted at least 10 named monsters and at least 1 Ghoul!

If someone meets these conditions, the Arms Dealer and Jeweler will appear nearby with a random probability.

Jang Jo-joon sighed after skimming through the update details and closing the window.

The appearance of evolved zombies, field bosses, and the level cap…

The restriction on nuclear weapons and firearms was a relief to him.

The threat of nuclear bombs and snipers had been significantly reduced.

The appearance of the Arms Dealer and Jeweler was also welcome news.

“Bring the weapons you got from hunting special zombies! Mer, what kind of weapon do you usually use?”

“I can handle any long weapon, including spears and halberds.”

“Big weapon!! Bring it!”

“Master! Here’s a sickle.”

Ha-young handed Jang Jo-joon a red sickle, which he quickly gave to Mer.

“How’s this?”

“Sufficient.”

Mer immediately swung the sickle, bisecting a Revenant emerging from the rooftop entrance.

“Whoa… Wow…”

Ha Jin-seong was speechless.

This tall woman had effortlessly killed the monster that had bisected Kim Il-woo.

“You move quite well.”

“I’m quite experienced in combat.”

Merhere took charge of the rooftop entrance, and Jang Jo-joon decided to give the monsters that hadn’t entered the supermarket yet a special gift. He judged that it wasn’t the time to hold back.

“Die! You damn zombies!”

Jang Jo-joon immediately offered 500 Magic as a sacrifice.

“Summon Abyssal Weaver.”

The air shimmered, and a giant monster’s foreleg emerged.

Thump!!! Thump!! Rumble!!!!

Warning!! Warning!!

The Master of the ‘Prison Palace’ has appeared on the field!!!

Abyssal Weaver, ‘Pluto Kishiria,’ reveals herself!!!

This monster shouldn’t exist in the current version!!!

The summoner’s level is too low!! Violation of causality detected!!!

Penalty applied to the summoner and Abyssal Weaver!

Summon duration is approximately 3 minutes. 2 weeks cooldown until resummon!!

Kishiria’s level has decreased!!!

Kishiria is summoned in a weakened state!!!

The air trembled.

A chilling killing intent, sharp enough to sting the skin, spread outwards, silencing even the groaning zombies.

Merhere, who had instinctively been about to swing her sickle, stopped and muttered while looking at the monster.

“That’s… a nightmare… Why is it here…?”

A monster that crushed all will to fight upon being encountered.

The greatest byproduct and creation of Indikron, the Master of the Abyss.

A being so powerful that Jang Jo-joon’s head would have exploded upon summoning it if he hadn’t been favored by the evil gods.

[Kish… Sigh… This place is filled with the stench of decay. Disgusting. I’m weakened too… Annoying. I want to go back.]

Kishiria’s slight annoyance churned the Magic within Jang Jo-joon, making him vomit blood.

[Vomiting blood from this? How weak… So, what should I kill, Master’s plaything?]

Jang Jo-joon clutched his throbbing head and said.

“Everything in front of us. Kill… all those zombies… Ugh…”

[Kishishishi. Such a simple task. Kishish. You summoned me for this trivial matter? Don’t summon me for such insignificant things next time. I’ll let it slide this once, considering your face, plaything.]

Kishiria gave a sharp warning to Jang Jo-joon and then jumped down from the rooftop.

Boom!!!

The ground cracked, and the air vibrated.

Jang Jo-joon collapsed to his knees.

Blood spurted from his mouth.

“Cough…!”

He hadn’t imagined the backlash from summoning her would be this intense. It was on a completely different level from the Abyssal Roach.

He had simply summoned her, but he felt like all the blood vessels in his body were about to burst.

‘Crazy. Just how powerful is she… to cause this much backlash…’

And the Abyssal Weaver didn’t even acknowledge Jang Jo-joon as her master. She called him a plaything, as if her only master was Indikron.

Merhere, who was supporting the puking Jang Jo-joon, couldn’t take her eyes off the Abyssal Weaver, which had jumped down from the building.

It was a monster that even she, in her prime before her fall, couldn’t handle.

For now, it was being forcibly controlled by Jang Jo-joon, but it could break the contract and tear him apart at any moment.

It was a bewildering sight for her, who didn’t yet fully understand that Jang Jo-joon was favored by the evil gods.

“Kya…”

Kishiria, casually crushing zombies with her forelegs, found her footing.

The Ghouls, sensing death, instinctively started to flee.

All the nearby zombies were running away. Kishiria wouldn’t allow them to escape.

All the zombies caught in her sight would die.

“Kishyaaaaa!!!!!”

Black threads shot out in all directions along with her scream.

Not a single zombie escaped. They were all pierced and captured by her threads.

The threads, connecting hundreds of zombies, were pulled taut.

Thud…

In an instant, all the zombies were ripped apart.

“Oh… my…”

“N-no… way…”

Everyone on the rooftop witnessed it.

A monster with the upper body of a beautiful woman and the lower body of a spider.

The embodiment of death itself.

[Kishish. Time’s up. Next time, level up more and only summon me when there are opponents worth fighting. This is a warning. There won’t be a second time, Master’s plaything.]

Kishiria was enveloped in darkness and disappeared.

“Cough…!”

Jang Jo-joon coughed up more blood and then lost consciousness.

[Translator Notes]

T/N – Well, that was pretty cool, not gonna lie. Though of course the Abyssal Weaver summon is an Arachne. Next thing we know, the cockroach actually has a human female form…

Also, I should have seen it coming that the author would nerf the sh*t out of the OP summon, considering it’s like level 50 at the minimum.
