“Knock Knock”

Professor Praha peeked out from her lab, with her same tired face.

Dark circles were visible beneath her glasses. The way they contrasted with her pale skin added to her allure, in a strange way.
She did not even look like a normal elf, she must have not slept for some time. Did she even sleep at all?

“I’m here for a checkup.”

“Ah?! Sponsor-nim?”

Professor Praha flinched. I had come to check on her progress.

“Any progress?”

“I have been looking for information, since I had to fight an actual dragon, instead of using those stories.” Her lab was messy, books, and papers were all over the place.

She was working hard. At least, she was doing her job properly.

I picked up a random paper, it was one that she was reading.

“Essence of werewolves…?”

“Yes. That’s something that I put aside, because it was a legend in many places.”

Werewolves were real monsters in this world.
They were mostly humans but when the full moon was up, they would turn into bipedal wolves. They were often confused with the wolf beastmen, who possessed wolf ears and tails, but they were different.

Werewolves spread through infection, unlike beastmen, who bred naturally.
Also they could lose their minds during a full moon.

“There’s a specific story about the essence of werewolves. And there have been cases of people trying to gain that power, since ancient times.”

What she said could not be considered as a simple folk tale. Just like the dragon essence, it was something that existed in a legend. The dragon essence that I had consumed had granted me a power, even if it wasn’t height.

If a growing expert had consumed that essence, it might have granted them a massive growth boost.

As monsters, they were on the upper tier but they were still too small to compare to Dragons.

But legends were based on myths.

“Long ago, the wolf god gifted a treasure to their temple. A young priest protected it but, foolish people heard that it could grant immortality, and power. They burned the temple and killed the priest. And in that instant, their bodies turned into wolves. And they became the first werewolves.”

“It’s a story about greed. The story stops there.”

“Actually, the temple was discovered. And stories surrounding that temple have been discovered and have become a hot topic recently.”

“What happened afterward?”

“The fools became beasts because of their greed, but the priest who protected it was gifted a portion of that power, he was given immortality, and was able to live happily ever after.”

“Immortality, huh… nonsense.”

“Right?”

“If someone became immortal, then they should still be alive. They must be hiding in a cave or something. That’s why people are trying to get the power of a werewolf.”
“You already know?”
“It’s quite a famous legend.” People sought to get the werewolf’s power, by eating their flesh, or drinking their blood, or grafting their body parts onto themselves.

“Some people tried to have kids with them, even though it doesn’t work. They hoped that their children will become werewolves. They thought they might turn if they had children when they had been transformed into their werewolf form.” She added.

Trying to have a baby with a monster was insane.

I was familiar with this. I had searched for information regarding growth acceleration before.

“But if we can get the essence of a werewolf, then we could achieve an explosive growth spurt!”

Her glasses shined. “The legends state that the essences are part of the gods blessing! That should be stronger than a dragon’s essence!”

“So… if I get the werewolf’s essence then I might get taller…” I understood her point. The fact that they were tall was something that stood out.

“Yes! If we can use that to make a potion, then we may be able to do it!”

“Ha… Seriously…”

To find and extract the werewolf’s essence… It was insane.

“Was I being too greedy…?”

“That’s a great idea, let’s do it.” I said, without hesitation. We needed to see if it was real or not.

I had given up on the essences after seeing how people attempted to get it in the past.
But if it was given by a god, then that would be something worth pursuing.
If I could become a human, while taking all of the werewolf’s strength, then it was an opportunity worth taking.

“So… how do I get the essence?”

“That’s what we need to find out.”

“Damn it.”

There we go again, I guess.

As I left the lab, I went to visit the Swordsmanship Club.
It was as big as a small building.
“You idiots! Do not lose a single point to the Clover Kingdom!”

The training was intense. They were training as hard as they could. They didn’t want to lose to the other kingdom. I could tell that they were not all on the same level.

Some were beginners but some were very skilled.

They must have ranked them from strongest to weakest. Their capes flapped as they practiced.
“I was always curious. Why do you wear capes?”

“The first captain wore a cape, so we use it as a uniform. It helps to differentiate us from other groups.” Hera answered me while she watched them.

She was wearing the same cape. “Skill is what matters most, the members should not have a bad history with you… If you defeated them, then that should be the end of it. You’re a good swordsman.”

She had seen me fight and she was now inviting me to join. “I appreciate the offer, but I don’t want to join, if you don’t mind.” I was probably not going to join, I had more important things to do.

“If you ever need to spar with someone, then feel free to ask me, brother.”

She still had not given up. I simply smiled, but her offer did seem tempting.

She led me to her office, where we could talk. We could speak freely now. “So… about the duel… I’ve contacted my father.”

“Huh?” That was unexpected.

I thought it was going to take some time for her to contact him. “I had to prepare myself before informing mother. I contacted father.”

“What did he say?”

“He said it was all a misunderstanding. He said a bunch of lies, I was disappointed with him. Don’t worry, even if he denies everything, your sister is always on your side!” She was acting childish, but she still seemed hurt.

‘This is not good’
I should write to my uncle Patro. They had to clear up this misunderstanding.
“I see….”

I couldn’t just let this drag on. She patted my head. If she had a better mood, she might have been less intense. I couldn’t win with her. I had to fix this, if I wanted to avoid any issues with her family.
“Also if you’re doing that, I have a request.” I added.

“What?” She looked excited, as she was waiting for me to ask.

“You have to stop calling me “brother”.”

Her expression turned sad. I had become used to her calling me that. But if I didn’t stop it now, I could never stop it.

I had to remind myself. I wasn’t her brother. I needed to keep our distance, even if it was by a little bit.
“You’re so mean! What do you want me to call you?! How about… darling?”

“Just call me Atlas.”

“Fine… Darling Atlas”

“No.. just Atlas.” I replied while she was trying to flirt with me, that’s how she was.

◇◇◇◆◇◇◇

“My fiancé(e) is in the Clover Kingdom.”

River’s words echoed in my mind. We were currently training, but she was too quiet.
She didn’t really want to talk with me so I didn’t bother her. I could always ask her later. It would be better if she told me willingly.

The Western Kingdom… were they powerful?

‘They also have a Master level power, don’t they?’ I had to make a decision.
I needed to learn more about this Clover Kingdom.

I tried everything to grow taller, but everything except 'that' didn't work out. I'm still looked down on for being short. Everyone would understand if they were my height.
