Four factions vied for control of the demonic sects:

The Heavenly Demon Sect, the Blood Cult, the Zoroastrian faith,

and the Sun Moon Holy Cult, a sect comprised of rogue martial artists who had betrayed their sects, families, and organizations.

Within the main headquarters of the Sun Moon Holy Cult,

ten figures, dressed in pristine white robes, their forms summoned through a formation, discussed their plans.

“We’ve received word from the Nangong family. As expected, the Sword Dragon of Nangong and the Snow Phoenix of the Ice Palace have gathered in Zeshik County.”

At the First Elder’s words, her face hidden behind a white veil, a predatory gleam flickered in the eyes of the other elders. But their interest wasn’t directed at the Sword Dragon or the Snow Phoenix.

“Why didn’t you mention the boy who uses the Dog Beating Staff Technique? Hmm? Trying to keep him for yourself?”

The First Elder sighed at Third Elder Tang Wu’s sharp, accusatory tone, his eyes as sharp as daggers, a trait befitting a member of the Sichuan Tang Family, and turned to the Ninth Elder.

“I asked you to keep this information confidential to avoid jeopardizing the mission. Have you already spread the rumor?”

Ninth Elder Xuan Hu, originally from the Five Poisons Sect of the Southern Barbarians, his face strangely fox like, feigned a troubled expression in response to the accusation.

“I simply advised caution, warning them of the possibility of encountering someone connected to Esoteric Buddhism, or… someone cursed by heaven.”

A sly, fox like chuckle echoed through the meeting hall.

“Imagine, encountering someone immune to curses, someone who wields the Dog Beating Staff Technique with lightning speed, during a simple mission to assist the Murderous Curtain in eliminating the Sword Dragon~ What a troublesome encounter~”

The First Elder finally understood the strange excitement that had filled the room before the meeting began.

They were after the Dog Beating Staff Technique, a legendary martial art, considered one of the three greatest staff techniques, alongside the Shaolin Temple’s Diamond Subduing Demon Staff Technique and Emperor Taizu of Song’s Staff Method.

Furthermore, the Dog Beating Staff Technique was one of the few powerful techniques the Sun Moon Holy Cult, despite having amassed a vast collection of martial arts through recruiting rogue martial artists and hunting down promising young disciples, hadn’t been able to acquire.

Unlike other sects’ techniques, it wasn’t recorded in any manuals, but passed down orally from one Beggars’ Sect leader to the next.

It was practically impossible for an outsider to learn, and stealing it by force was also out of the question, as the only ones who knew the technique were the Beggars’ Sect leaders themselves.

The First Elder glanced at Xuan Hu, who was smiling apologetically, then looked at the other elders, their eyes gleaming with greed.

And yet, a mere aspiring young martial artist was wielding the Beggars’ Sect’s most prized, secret technique.

It was an irresistible temptation for the elders, who had betrayed their sects and joined the demonic factions in their pursuit of power.

“Everyone, we haven’t confirmed that the boy is actually using the Dog Beating Staff Technique. So, for now, please focus on your assigned missions.”

The elders nodded, seemingly accepting the First Elder’s gentle yet firm warning, her authority as the acting cult leader undeniable.

Or rather, they acquiesced.

After all, to escalate the conflict within the Nangong family, they had to travel to Zeshik County and eliminate the Sword Dragon.

And doing so would allow them to confirm whether the boy traveling with him, Sima Mancheon, was truly wielding the Dog Beating Staff Technique.

“Hmm… Zeshik County, you say… that’s where Meiyang is…”

As the tension among the elders eased, a beautiful woman with long, dark hair and massive boobs, her features soft and inviting, her demeanor seductive, muttered to herself.

“I wonder… is that child fortunate, or unfortunate? It’s a persistent connection.”

Ma Yang, the Seventh Elder of the Sun Moon Holy Cult, formerly of the Quanzhen Sect, smiled faintly as she thought of her younger martial sister, Wang Meiyang, who was likely still searching for her, a small, determined figure.

‘I wonder what she’s doing now…’

Was she plotting revenge, her blade sharpened, ready to strike down the one who had killed her master? Or was she enjoying her newfound freedom, exploring the vast world beyond her sect?

She was curious.

So, as if she were simply asking for permission to take a short detour, she smiled sweetly at the First Elder.

“Regarding the assassination of Nangong Xiaoshao… would it be alright if I handled it personally?”

◇◇◇◆◇◇◇

In a garden filled with blossoming peach trees, their delicate pink petals swirling in the breeze, just like the day she had exchanged vows of love with her older brother…

Yeonhwa and Mancheon spent a blissful afternoon together.

“Hee-hee… do you like it here, my cute little kitten?”

She blushed, her ears tingling at his affectionate words, his gentle hand stroking her chin.

“M-meow… meow… yes,” she purred, leaning against his firm chest, using his arm, wrapped securely around her waist, as an excuse to snuggle closer.

She reveled in his affection, a rare treat after being separated for so long.

She nestled in his embrace, enjoying his warmth, waiting for his touch, feeling like a pampered kitten.

“More… more… pet me more, Older Brother,” she purred shamelessly.

“How could I not adore you? Even without you asking”

He pulled her closer, his embrace tightening, his voice a soft whisper.

“I’ll spoil you rotten, until you’re completely ruined.”

Their eyes met, his amber eyes filled with a possessive hunger, her red eyes blazing with passion.

They leaned closer, their breaths mingling.

But their lips didn’t meet.

-Rumble!!

The ground beneath them cracked open, and a giant monster emerged, separating them.

“Roar—!!”

Three heads, held high, spewing flames, their eyes glowing with a dark, abyssal light.

It was the monstrous three headed dragon, a harbinger of destruction.

Azi Dahaka, the emissary of Angra Mainyu, the evil god, the antithesis of Saoshyant, the emissary of Ahura Mazda, the god of good.

“Azi Dahaka?!”

Yeonhwa’s red eyes widened in horror at the sudden appearance of the three headed dragon of destruction.

“Wh-why…? I… I just wanted to… cuddle with my older brother…”

It seemed that had been the problem.

One of Azi Dahaka’s heads, its blue eye gleaming, lunged forward and snatched Mancheon.

“Waaaaah! Yeonhwa!!”

“Older Brother?!”

Mancheon, now soft and round thanks to Yeonhwa’s constant stream of snacks, flailed his arms uselessly as he was carried away, his waist clutched firmly in Azi Dahaka’s jaws.

Tears of regret welled up in Yeonhwa’s eyes.

“I… I fed him too much… I’m sorry… I’m so sorry, Older Brother. I’ll… I’ll put you on a diet.”

The creature, which resembled Azi Dahaka, nuzzled Mancheon’s soft, mochi like cheeks, a look of satisfaction on its face.

“Round Mancheon, so cute. Mine. We’ll be together forever.”

And then it turned and walked towards a vast, endless ocean that had suddenly appeared, splitting the earth.

To cross (過) the sea (海).

Waves crashed over her, the humiliation of having her beloved snatched away washing over her like the tide.

And ironically, the shock brought her back to her senses.

She didn’t care about Azi Dahaka anymore.

Flames of rage and jealousy burned within her, evaporating the seawater.

She rose, incinerating the illusion, her body wreathed in flames.

◇◇◇◆◇◇◇

“Haah… haah… it was just a dream,” she whispered, sitting up in bed.

She opened the window, letting the cool night air dispel the stifling heat of her nightmare, her body damp with sweat.

It had been a ridiculous dream, a product of a restless afternoon nap.

But it felt… ominous, more than just a dream.

A cool, refreshing breeze, belying her unease, caressed her cheek, carrying the scent of peach blossoms.

She heard the faint strains of a pipa melody, a sound that shouldn’t be possible.

She remembered her older brother, serenading her beneath a shower of confetti, his pipa music filling the air.

He had always been the one to approach her, to reach out…

to protect her, a monster destined to set the world ablaze, with all his might.

She touched the Zoroastrian symbol hanging around her neck.

“…….”

Yeonhwa summoned a servant and instructed her to prepare a bath and a change of clothes.

It was time to see her older brother.

A married couple was one flesh, one heart. Being separated for so long was unnatural.

And if her nightmare was a divine message from Ahura Mazda, then her older brother was in danger.

An unquenchable flame flickered in Yeonhwa’s beautiful red eyes.

It was her turn to protect him.
