Sherden had been eavesdropping. Egenir, focused on Ella, hadn’t noticed the lurking geezer.

‘If I’d used Scan…’

He would have sensed Sherden’s presence.

“So you lost.”

“So?”

Sherden’s expression was grim.

“Losers should be punished.”

“Then kill me.”

“No.”

He shook his head.

“You possess the swordsmanship my daughter desires.”

He gritted his teeth.

“But you refuse to teach her.”

Teaching her would mean another crazy yandere. He wouldn’t do it.

“Not even if I die.”

“Is that so…Ella, is the letter true?”

What letter?

Egenir looked nervously at the bear-like Sherden and the petite Ella.

“Yes.”

“You find that bastard’s swordsmanship more impressive than your father’s?”

“Yes.”

“Even after I defeated him…your heart remains unchanged. So, how do you plan to resolve this?”

“Resolve what? What are you talking about?”

Sherden drew his sword.

“Simple. Die by my hand, or join the Gainz family as Ella’s husband.”

“…”

Egenir stared at him, dumbfounded.

“What?”

“Ella wrote in her letter that she’d found someone who uses Dragon Swordsmanship as well as I do. And she wrote…”

He ground his teeth.

“…that she’d do anything, use any means necessary, to learn his swordsmanship, for the sake of the family.”

Ella’s hidden affinity trigger: Someone better at Dragon Swordsmanship than her father.

Achieved.

“This crazy…!”

“And in the next letter, she called you her… husband. She wrote about…clashing swords with you, using metaphors that could be…misinterpreted as… intimate.”

Sherden’s smile didn’t reach his eyes.

‘It was all a trap?!’

He realized Ella had deliberately written those letters, using Sherden’s arrival to her advantage. And she’d added fuel to the fire by telling Sherden about seeing him in his underwear.

‘Because she couldn’t beat me!’

He understood why she’d been in her underwear in her dormitory, why she’d been straddling him in her underwear after he’d collapsed from exhaustion.

The clues had been there all along. Only an idiot wouldn’t have seen her intentions.

‘She hated me!’

He hadn’t expected her to suddenly become so aggressive. He’d always treated her with friendly indifference, assuming she was unattainable. And now, she was pursuing him relentlessly.

‘Was it when I saved her from Cecilia’s explosion?’

Her affinity had been stuck at 42, then suddenly skyrocketed.

“These damn family connections!”

Sherden, a Dragon Swordsmanship veteran, had been manipulated as well. He’d read Ella’s letters and immediately seen Egenir as a threat, a rival for his daughter’s affection.

“If I judged you solely on your character, I’d kill you a hundred times over…But I have to consider my daughter’s happiness.”

“What about my happiness?”

“Choose. Lose your head, or join the Gainz family and marry my daughter.”

‘Whoosh!’

Aura flared around Sherden’s sword. He’d been waiting for an excuse to unleash it.

“I’ve given you my reasons. Now choose. My daughter’s happiness, or your life.”

“This…This is…”

He gritted his teeth. He looked at his waist, but all he had was his broken wooden sword.

“Hey, you bastards! Give me your swords!”

He yelled at the students who’d been watching.

“Too late.”

“What?”

“I’ve already taken care of them.”

“Sorry, Instructor!”

They all bowed their heads.

“If I join the Gainz family, your training is over! Over! Understand?!”

“But if you cooperate, the Gainz family will…”

“You spoiled brats!”

Egenir pointed at them, cursing.

“What about Teacher Harfon?!”

“He’s at a swordsmanship instructors’ meeting.”

That’s why Harfon hadn’t been around to offer his usual unwanted advice.

“Cecilia! Cecilia!”

“Useless.”

He called out to his fellow yandere, hoping to counter one poison with another, but Ella shook her head.

He looked at her, his eyes wide with fear.

“Cecilia is busy with Teacher Spenny.”

Ella had done her research. She’d been unusually quiet about Cecilia’s advances, and now he understood why.

She’d learned about the magic studies department’s schedule, about Cecilia’s involvement with Spenny’s research.

Sherden had probably figured out that Spenny and Cecilia were busy with their experiment and had seen Cecilia’s outburst during his first confrontation with Egenir. He’d identified her as a potential threat.

[That girl is…strange.]

Sherden had said to Ella the previous night.

[I trust my instincts. If you’re serious about that…bastard, Cecilia will be a problem.]

[…Yes.]

[I’ll support your decision, but…are you sure he’s husband material?]

[Yes.]

Ella’s response had been firm.

[…Fine. I have one condition. If his swordsmanship isn’t up to par, I’ll oppose this marriage.]

[It’s more than enough.]

[…He’s a sword demon. Do you know how they become sword demons?]

They were forged in countless battles, their swords stained with blood. Sherden, like a cunning fox, had questioned Ella about Egenir’s swordsmanship, piecing together his past.

A self-made sword demon, a path unattainable for those born with privilege. Even Sherden, the head of the Gainz family, recognized the value of such a skill.

He’d seen Egenir’s potential, his willingness to protect Ella, and had seized the opportunity.

‘He gets provoked easily.’

He’d realized that Egenir reacted strongly to childish taunts, so he’d deliberately used them. And he’d seen it. The true power of the Broken Sword.

‘That little bastard…worthy of my daughter…?!’

He wanted to crush Egenir, but that would mean denying Ella the chance to learn his swordsmanship.

And though he considered the Magic Swordsman path foolish, Egenir’s skill, honed through countless battles, was undeniable, a raw talent that surpassed even some of the Gainz family’s most skilled swordsmen.

He’d seen the beauty in Egenir’s brutal, untamed style, his wooden sword moving with the ferocity of a tiger’s claw. He’d decided to support Ella’s decision.

“Isn’t this a good opportunity for you? A chance to join the Gainz family, despite your…humble background.”

“You…you…”

Egenir was speechless.

He’d underestimated Sherden, assuming he was just a brute. But the head of the Gainz family was a cunning strategist.

He’d been played, manipulated into revealing his true strength.

“Instructor! You said marrying into a good family is the best option!” one of the girls yelled.

“You have to succeed so we can follow your example! You’re the best, Instructor!”

“Instructor’s the best!”

“Congratulations!”

Ella had brought the drunk Egenir to her dormitory, and the next day…they hadn’t questioned her being in her underwear with him because…

‘They were already on her side?!’

They knew about Ella’s interest in Egenir, her intention to make him her husband. They’d made a deal.

They’d help Ella pursue him if he agreed to train them. That’s why Shelton and the five had been so easily swayed.

A hundred girls, united in their purpose, were a force to be reckoned with.

“I’ll kill them all!”

“Just accept it. They’re doing this for you. The Gainz family isn’t just any family, you know.”

“Put your damn sword away before you try to convince me, you crazy old man!”

The aura radiating from Sherden’s sword was a constant threat.

“Aaaaaah!”

Ella, considering a student’s suggestion that Egenir might need time to think, nodded. The five rushed forward, tying him up.

“You seem to be enjoying this.”

“Ugh!”

They responded with “Ugh!”, but their grins were undeniable.

“You ungrateful bastards! I taught you everything, even spoon-fed you swordsmanship, and you betray me like this?! You’re worse than dogs!”

“Well, you know how it is…No, we’re doing this for you, Instructor!”

“Yes, it’s not what we want.”

He wished they’d stop smiling while saying that. Someone, intentionally or not, stepped on him.

“Who the hell was that?!”

Surrounded and tied up, he couldn’t tell who’d done it. Too many potential culprits.

“Aaaaaah!”

They gagged him and dragged him away. Ella Gainz. The daughter of a powerful family, a political mastermind capable of mobilizing vast resources.

Egenir had underestimated her. And just like in his previous regressions, Ella had won.

If Engenir is smart enough he can force Ella into a dilemma into choosing between the low class Dorms or the other students when she gains the Hero trait using his status as husband for the low class or the duty of the hero for the others

Now this what i like to see, a twist that in hindsght makes complete fucking sense. We’ve been told that ella was a highly competant and skilled hero but all we saw of her was a fairly bland neuroatypical girl who doesnt understand boundaries. For it to be part of a scheme cooked up for quite the amount of chapters by now makes me want to applaud the author
