◇◇◇◆◇◇◇

There’s a simple way for me to know how many months it’s been since the otherworlders arrived here.

I experience a monthly physical and mental period. And today, marking the 14th month since their arrival, I was due for another episode of Berserk.

To celebrate, I performed a small ritual in the depths of my cave.

Tap tap tap, tap…

…I won’t go into detail about the ritual. I was embarrassed, and it was frankly a bit too gay to describe in detail.

[T/N: eyoo]

Let’s just say… I relieved myself several times.

Quite a few times, actually.

My Berserk B had recently taken a strange turn. Perhaps because I’d seen so many stimulating scenes lately, my libido was heightened rather than my anger or depression.

It was always a “raging” state, but lately, that manifested as an intense sexual urge.

Whether this was a good or bad change, I wasn’t sure.

“Phew…”

Eventually, the excitement subsided as morning arrived. All that remained were strange, lingering smells and a sense of self-loathing.

‘How many times did I go without any… material?’

The world didn’t look beautiful, I just felt pathetic. Well, at least it was better than feeling depressed.

“…”

After some idle thoughts, I stepped outside.

Once the episode passed, I always looked at the sunlight first. It confirmed that the night had passed and lifted my spirits slightly.

More than anything, it had become a routine over my time here, and I felt uneasy if I didn’t see the sunlight after an episode.

As I stepped out, the fresh scent of grass tickled my nose.

“…! …!!”

And along with it, I heard a voice.

It wasn’t Chae-rin or Ha-neul. They had both visited recently. But it wasn’t a voice I could ignore, either.

“…ook! Is Yor he…re…!”

The speaker was shouting my name intermittently.

I frowned deeply and sighed.

“Haa.”

I was exhausted, and some unknown person was calling for me. I wanted to ignore them and go back to sleep, but I couldn’t. It was unclear if they would leave if I ignored them.

So, I dragged myself towards the voice, intending to meet them.

“…Oh, what the. You came quickly. Were you nearby?”

When I met the person, I couldn’t help but frown. It wasn’t a welcome sight. What was her name… Niki Tanesia.

A Carrier, like me, and a member of Lemegeton. The one who had suddenly revealed my identity to Yoo Chae-rin, nearly ruining our relationship.

Well, it turned out okay in the end… but I only had bad memories of her. So, I immediately snarled at her.

“I told you to get lost last time. Did you come back to die?”

“Whoa, whoa, calm down. I’m not here to recruit you.”

“…”

I relaxed my guard slightly. She didn’t seem hostile. And she looked exhausted.

As I continued to glare at her, a question popped into my head.

She was a Carrier, so how could she be in the forest so early in the morning?

I asked her directly.

“What about Berserk? Wasn’t it the new moon yesterday? How are you already in the forest?”

“Berserk? It’s a bit annoying, but I can still move around. So, I forced myself to travel here early this morning.”

I tilted my head.

…That? Berserk was just a bit annoying? Didn’t an episode, whether A or B, mean losing an entire day?

I could wander the forest during a B episode, but… I couldn’t imagine moving with that level of rationality.

‘Maybe Berserk affects each Carrier differently.’

It was just a thought. I didn’t know. I hadn’t seen anyone else experience an episode.

As I was thinking this, Niki spoke again.

“Sniff sniff, By the way, do you smell something strange? Something… pungent…”

I felt a slight twinge of shame.

Damn it, I hadn’t washed up after… relieving myself. I’d planned to go back inside after seeing the sunlight, but I’d unexpectedly encountered someone.

“…Shut up. Just tell me why you’re here.”

I curtly changed the subject. Fortunately, she followed my lead without much thought.

“It’s simple. I’m here to give you some information.”

“Information? Now?”

A new information broker? This was a bit strange.

“…Just listen.”

She then began to explain what had happened last night. Something I had no interest in – the battle for the altar.

◇◇◇◆◇◇◇

Many people had gathered for the battle over the Kimaris altar. Anything related to demons was always important to Lemegeton.

Niki was among those who participated. She was a team leader and a skilled fighter.

But shortly after arriving, she heard this.

“We’ve already lost this battle.”

“…What?”

“Too many enemies have gathered. A battle needs to be somewhat even, but at this rate, we’ll be overrun even if we take the altar. Tsk.”

It was none other than the Fourth District Manager speaking. The commander in charge of this battle had already declared defeat.

The enemy’s numbers were overwhelming.

They hadn’t engaged yet, so individual strength was unknown, but they were already outnumbered.

But the commander couldn’t just retreat without a fight. They had to at least put up a show. It was about preserving their reputation and avoiding the stigma of cowardice.

So, the District Manager made another decision.

“We’ll attack their camp on the night of the new moon. It’ll be easier to retreat even if we lose since there will be less light.”

It was a show of force.

They could inflict some damage while minimizing their own losses. The other leaders agreed.

The only downside was that Niki couldn’t participate in the battle on the night of the new moon.

She was a Carrier, after all.

Fortunately, her Berserk episodes were mild, but not mild enough to fight. So, she decided to patrol a nearby village during the battle. It was uncomfortable, but moving around was better than sitting still.

As she walked under the dark night sky…

“—You dare…! Disobey the kingdom’s laws and hide a criminal!!”

“I’m sorry! Please, spare our lives…!”

“No chance! Those who threaten humanity must pay with their blood!”

“Kyaaagh! F-Father! No!”

She heard shouts from somewhere. And the faint sound of blades clashing.

“What the…?”

Unable to resist her curiosity, Niki headed towards the noise.

And she saw it. Several cold corpses and a wounded knight, panting heavily.

She hadn’t participated in the battle, but she’d been here for a few days and recognized the corpses. They were the village chief’s family.

For some reason, the knight had killed them.

Her gaze moved further inward. And she saw a new figure.

A young girl with a dark crimson tattoo on her thigh, clutching her head in pain.

“Ugh, my head…!”

A Carrier.

She hadn’t expected to find a new Carrier here. Her eyes widened in surprise. She quickly pieced together the situation.

A wounded knight had stumbled upon the village chief’s house, discovered the hidden Carrier, and killed the family.

Hiding a Carrier was a serious crime, just like harboring demon blood.

“Hah, who’s there!”

Regardless, she couldn’t just stand by. As a member of Lemegeton and a fellow Carrier, she couldn’t let another Carrier die.

So, Niki quickly dealt with the knight and took the young girl with her.

Even in her Berserk state, she was strong enough to handle a wounded, knight.

The village chief’s family was already dead… she could only take the child.

The child was in a state of shock.

“Sob, sob… Chief. Mom, Dad…”

She was in pain from the episode, and those who had cared for her had been killed.

Niki felt a pang of sympathy for the young girl.

She took the child to the Fourth District Manager’s tent. He was still analyzing the battle’s progress, not yet participating.

The District Manager looked at Niki and asked,

“Hmm, what is it? And who’s this child?”

“A Carrier. I saved her from being killed by a knight.”

Niki explained the situation.

“Hmm, hooh…”

The District Manager nodded, intrigued.

“A Carrier hidden in such a small village. Interesting.”

“Right? Anyway, do you have a spare tent? We need to protect her for now.”

“Wait… just a moment.”

The District Manager looked back and forth between the child and the map on the table, deep in thought.

Then, he smiled crookedly at the child.

“Tell me, child. Do you resent them?”

“…?”

The child was still lost in her grief. Tear-filled eyes looked up at the District Manager.

“Do you hate the knights who killed your family? I have a way, you see.”

“What? Hey, wait a minute.”

Niki intervened. It was obvious what he was planning.

She stopped him, asking,

“What the hell are you doing? Instead of comforting her, you’re encouraging her to go on a rampage?”

“Think about it, Niki. So many people have gathered in one place. What do you think will happen if we unleash a Demon Child here?”

Many sacrifices would undoubtedly be offered at once. The District Manager chuckled.

Niki swore at him.

“You son of a bitch…”

She honestly didn’t care much about demons. She was in Lemegeton because it was a comfortable place to live. She was born a criminal, so she had a foot in the criminal world.

But this was wrong. Inciting a child to sell her soul.

But it was too late. The child was already tempted by the District Manager’s words.

“What… what is this way…?”

The child looked up at him with teary eyes, hatred slowly taking root.

The District Manager spoke kindly to the child.

“It’s simple. You already know the way.”

“…”

The rest was obvious. No further persuasion was needed.

The child became a Demon Child and killed 120 people. And the 13-year-old child met a glorious end.

◇◇◇◆◇◇◇

“…I hate to admit it, but you’re right. This place worships demons.”

After that, it was simple.

Disgusted by the District Manager and not wanting to see her own kind on a rampage, Niki headed straight for me.

Despite our differences, she came to me, a fellow Carrier.

“It’s a comfortable place to live, but they see us as tools.”

The knight had been the catalyst, but Lemegeton had ultimately turned the child into a Demon Child.

She seemed to be deep in thought about it.

Naturally, I was shocked, too. Another Demon Child had appeared. And 120 people had been sacrificed. Another demon might appear soon.

I felt sympathy for the child and my opinion of the Fourth District Manager plummeted. But I was also curious.

I looked at her and asked,

“Did you come all the way here just to tell me that? While you were in Berserk?”

“…Yes. I don’t like you, honestly. But you’re a fellow Carrier. And you haven’t joined us yet.”

Niki took a breath and continued.

“And I didn’t just come with this one piece of information. There’s something else that’s especially helpful to people like us.”

“What is it?”

“I’ll tell you. It’s something the Lemegeton bastards would never share.”

I listened more intently.

“Haa…”

She took another breath and told me,

“There’s a way to get rid of Berserk forever.”

My guess, since the carrier has demon blood, is a key to bring that demon over and get berserk episodes to be controlled by the demon – if he (or mybe anyone) kill that demon the whole blood chain that bind him breaks. And the cult won’t tell them since they don’t want demons to die.
