Crash!

About halfway down the stairs leading to the ruins’ basement, I turned my head at the thunderous crash coming from behind me. A rock eyeball was limbering up at the top of the stairs.

It looked like a human eyeball carved out of rock, with four legs attached.

According to the lore, it was one of the golems that served as guardians of these ancient ruins.

It was also a helpful fellow who would assist me in what I was about to do.

‘I should run first, right?’

To skip the rest of the section, I first had to proceed a little further into the ruins, so I quickly ran down the stairs.

I heard a grinding sound of stone against stone from behind me. It was the sound of the golem retracting its legs into its body.

Soon, the stairs began to vibrate. It meant that the eyeball golem, having transformed into a perfect sphere, was rolling down the stairs.

The sound from behind me grew louder, but I continued further inside, passing by several alcoves strategically placed for hiding.

I hid myself when I reached a precarious spot.

The moment I squeezed myself into the alcove, the eyeball golem rolled past. If I had been even a second later, my legs would have been crushed, or my lower body mangled.

A loud crash echoed from the other end of the passage, and a powerful shockwave swept through. I stepped out of the alcove. The golem was flailing its legs, spinning in place.

Just as unintelligent as in the game.

Nothing much changed after that.

It was a repetition of running away from the rolling eyeball golem, hiding in alcoves, and then running further while the golem, having crashed into a wall, spun in place.

After repeating this process exactly four times, I arrived at a spacious plaza.

It was a place that allowed you to skip the entire middle section of the ancient ruins and proceed directly to the boss fight.

There were eight paths leading out of the plaza, but there was no need to worry about getting lost. There were torches lit next to the correct path, so it was easy to distinguish if you paid close attention.

Rumble!

That is, if you could pay close attention while an eyeball golem was rolling towards you.

As it had done before, the eyeball golem crashed into the wall of the plaza and spun in place.

Then, seizing the moment when its rotation stopped, it extended its legs.

The large iris turned towards me.

Blink, the rocky eyelids blinked once.

The golem, now standing tall on all fours, looked down at me.

I could easily defeat it if I wanted to. Like all golems, it was resistant to physical attacks but vulnerable to magic and holy spells, so it would be easily defeated if I just changed my attack type.

I was leaving it alone because I needed it to skip the ruins.

‘This is it.’

I chose a dead end and walked towards a bridge near a cliff where the path was broken.

The bridge that should have connected the two cliffs had long since collapsed. I could see the ancient ruins far below. Without using tricks, I would have to descend all the way down.

That is, without using tricks.

I heard the sound of the eyeball golem, which had followed me, preparing to roll again. I stood at the edge of the cliff and gripped Wingless Nightmare with both hands.

Rumble…

I heard the sound of rocks grinding against each other, and the eyeball golem appeared. It was large enough to practically fill the entire passage.

That was why there were alcoves on the side, for dodging.

Here was a very interesting fact:

You could parry its roll.

It was only possible when you made contact with the part that corresponded to a human iris, and the timing was incredibly precise, but the key point was that it was possible.

I subtly shifted my position to adjust the golem’s rolling speed. I had to make sure its iris was facing me when it reached the edge of the cliff.

That was the only way to parry it without getting crushed.

I sped up the eyeball golem a few times and then stood at the edge of the cliff again. I waited for it to roll towards me. The crashing sound grew closer.

‘Now.’

As I had intended, the golem revealed its iris right before it reached me. I swung my sword at that exact moment.

The blade of Wingless Nightmare collided with the large, rocky iris.

Screech!

The eyeball golem’s body abruptly veered sideways. The golem, having executed a 90-degree drift, crashed into the wall of the passage.

Boom!

A shockwave erupted.

My body, caught in the shockwave, was flung into the air. And then, I began to fall. All sorts of structures, paths, and bridges rose from below.

As always, this was a technique that used a plunging attack.

Unless you used wall clipping or glitches, skipping sections almost always involved a plunging attack.

Except for the routes intentionally designed by the developers.

‘Got it.’

A torch flashed past right in front of me. If the torch flashed past like that, it meant the angle was correct.

If it was further away, or if I touched the torch, I would simply fall to my death and have to start over. There was nothing else to be done.

Soon, I saw the mob that would become my sacrificial lamb. It was a bit of a stretch to call it a mob, actually.

It was a golem twice my height, standing there with a bow, staring blankly down below.

I had to defeat it anyway to make the boss fight easier. If I entered the boss room without defeating it, it would shoot arrows at me. It was quite annoying.

‘Might as well take care of it while I’m here.’

I reversed my grip on Wingless Nightmare and landed on top of its head.

Crack!

With a single blow, its head was crushed before it could even react.

It was a distance I could never reach with a normal jump.

If I had tried to jump down from there, I would have probably fallen to my death somewhere in the boss room.

But if you stood at the edge of the cliff, parried the eyeball golem’s roll, and then got launched by the shockwave created when it crashed into the wall, you could reach it.

This was the trick to skipping the entire ancient ruins.

I landed on the ground, crushing the golem’s shoulder. I used the sword as support and rotated my body half a turn.

Wingless Nightmare sliced through its upper body vertically, slowing my descent.

I landed lightly on the ground.

The golem, its head crushed and its upper body bisected in a matter of seconds, fell backwards with a thud. Soon, its entire body crumbled into pieces.

I brushed off the stone fragments from my blade and looked down at the boss room. The ‘Six-Armed Golem,’ the boss of these ancient ruins, was lumbering around in the large plaza.

It had a human upper body, but where its lower body should have been, there were two arms instead. And on its shoulder blades, there were two large arms.

Hence the name, Six-Armed Golem.

‘I can’t just jump down from here…’

If my HP stat were at least 5, I could just take the fall damage, but 1 HP wasn’t enough. I obediently followed the path behind the railing.

It was a short distance to the boss room from there anyway.

◇◇◇◆◇◇◇

“This is all I need.”

I picked up a scroll from among the fragments of the Six-Armed Golem’s corpse.

It was a magic scroll, but it wasn’t something Minerva would go crazy over, like the ancient scrolls. She would just be mildly interested.

I didn’t know why it wasn’t considered an ancient scroll even though it was found in the ‘ancient ruins.’

She would still be interested in it, though. I put the scroll in my pocket.

The golem’s corpse crumbled into dust, and a magic circle appeared in the center of the boss room. I stepped onto the magic circle. The platform began to rise into the air.

‘I wonder what happened to Fetch.’

I had told Lize to go easy on her, so she was probably still alive.

Well, she might be barely alive, but the Lize I knew wasn’t cruel enough to do that.

The other Knight Commanders of the Silver Dawn Knights were the same.

The platform, rising vertically like an elevator, stopped in a dark room. I stepped off the platform and pulled the lever in front of me.

The entrance, which had looked like a wall, rose upwards. Dust billowed around as the door moved, as if it hadn’t been used in a long time.

I waited for the door to open completely and then stepped outside. Familiar figures came into view. Lize and Nix. They both brightened up when they saw me.

“Oh, you’re here? Delta?”

“Hehe, you’re back.”

Lize waved with a bright smile, and Nix waved timidly with a small smile. I waved back.

Just as I was about to approach them, I heard an urgent voice from somewhere.

“M-Master Delta!”

‘Master Delta?’

I turned my head towards the voice, puzzled by the unfamiliar title.

A woman with pink twintails, Fetch to be exact, was running towards me.

Naked.

‘What the hell?’

I was startled and about to look away when I noticed something white, so I looked back at Fetch.

She wasn’t naked, after all.

She was wearing her usual underboob tights and tights that were practically panties, but the angle she was running from was so perfect that it had looked like she wasn’t wearing anything.

For a moment, I thought Lize had stripped her naked and was tormenting her.

With the long coat that had covered half of her body gone, I was reminded of how revealing her outfit was.

‘That scared me.’

Fetch, having run right up to me, bowed her head and prostrated herself on the ground.

But her buttocks were facing me.

“Please beat me as much as you want! I beg you!”

I was lured by an invitation email to the beta test of the sequel to the game I’ve been playing for the past 10 years. To my surprise, all the mods I’ve installed over the years were still there. Everything from enemy enhancement mods to NPC gender swap and appearance retouching mods were intact. Even mods for changing the characters’ outfits were still in place. *Takes inspiration from Sekiro + Soulsborne series.
