When I first discovered the term ‘monster’ in the log, I recalled one particular monster.

A representative monster that came to mind when you thought of the ‘sea’.

A monster that symbolizes the fear of mollusks in the West.

The Kraken.

A terrifyingly huge octopus head would be the most powerful monster in a fantasy sea.

It makes sense that the captain was so terrified. And the biggest problem is that the damn octopus bastard is now rushing towards our ship.

It hasn’t been long since we got this ship, and you’re crawling in?

Is this your living room?

…Ah, it is your living room.

It seems this foggy sea area itself is the Kraken’s hunting ground.

Having once again realized our sad reality, I wiped the shovel blade with the hem of my clothes and became lost in thought.

Can we catch it without getting hurt?

Even if that thing gets beaten up and cries out in pain, it can just go into the sea and be done with it.

But for us, even a single hole in the ship means we’re welcomed to the Flying Dutchman.

Ah, is Millia an exception?

She’ll float around anyway…

“Captain! Captain! Snap out of it!”

“Don’t shout in my ear. I was just assessing the situation.”

“While you’re assessing, that monster might assess us first and eat us up! At this rate, we’ll become octopus food!”

“You’re noisy.”

At most, it’s more troublesome than that Hydra brat…

I thought as I estimated the size of the Kraken, whose distinct form was starting to become visible, and recalled the remnants of Wilson 6 that we had loaded onto the ship.

If we wanted to catch it with minimal damage, it seemed we also needed to make a definite investment.

“Millia. Go tell Renny to prepare to cut off the octopus legs.”

“The legs? Why?”

“For emergency food.”

What do you mean why?

Why are you making such a shocked expression?

Are you disgusted by octopus because you’re a Westerner?

What a bunch of taste ignoramuses.

It’s because you haven’t been to a good restaurant… Well, a Kraken is a bit different.

I shut my mouth at the sight of the Kraken’s robust tentacles that looked like they could easily grab and throw a cruise ship with just one of them.

Hmm, if it was that big, it was a bit questionable whether we could do it or not.

It was like a creature that grew up eating humans.

But the plump tentacles looked like they’d be perfect as a snack with alcohol if we sliced and grilled them.

Alright.

Today is the day we eat grilled Kraken.

If we survive, that is.

I called Renny, who was watching the Kraken swimming towards us on the deck with Millia.

“Renny! Cut off the tentacles!”

“The tentacles?”

“Tonight’s dinner is grilled octopus.”

Renny, who had been swinging a greatsword as big as her body that we found on Wilson 3 or 4, looked at me.

Her expression seemed to say ‘What nonsense are you spouting?’, but since they’re just pitiful taste ignoramuses, I, the broad-minded one, should understand.

“What? How can we eat something like that?!”

“There’s no better snack with alcohol than grilled octopus.”

“…Is that true? I’ll cut it right away, so wait! It’s been a while since I’ve had a taste of alcohol!”

Morale boost complete.

I might unexpectedly have the constitution of a pirate captain.

If there’s nothing to do after seeing the true ending, should I take Wilson 7 and become a seafarer?

Ah, come to think of it, Karina… Ah, she’s coming out now.

“Karina! Go cast a protection spell on the ship!”

“Okay!”

With this, the basic setup was done.

Let’s do some remodeling first.

I immediately went inside the ship and entered the storage room where the materials were gathered.

Inside the storage room, the remnants of Wilson 6 that Renny had piled up while sweating were stacked.

How should I attach it?

After a bit of contemplation, I reached a conclusion.

Let’s turn it into a ram ship.

“Disassembly. Crafting. Repair.”

I activated the skills in succession.

I disassembled the figurehead that was embedded in the bow, and instead of the figurehead, I attached an armored deck and a large horn.

Fortunately, I had experience making all sorts of things while using one-third of the island’s wood over the past month.

I was going to attach something like that to Wilson 1 before being told that it would ruin the center of gravity.

Isn’t attaching a large and beautiful horn the romance of a sailboat?!

…Phew, it’s done.

I should quickly go up and lend a hand.

As soon as I confirmed that the materials had disappeared, I ran up to the deck.

When I came up to the deck, the Kraken had noticeably gotten closer.

I immediately ran to the sails, unfurled them, and shouted to Millia.

“Millia! Hold your head tightly! We’re going to collide!”

“What?”

“Huh?”

Without even giving her time to answer, I grabbed the steering wheel.

The distance to the Kraken was rapidly closing.

I could see the Kraken, with a brain as soft as its octopus-like appearance, fearlessly approaching without realizing that a sharp awl would pierce its eyeball.

Three.

Two.

One!

I hugged the mast with the sails and endured the impact.

A scream that seemed to rupture my eardrums shook my body.

As befitting a creature with a body even larger than a giant whale, just its cry was enough to make me feel dizzy. And with the sound of rupture, the scream became even louder.

Did it hit?

A sticky liquid poured over my body.

Ah.

It’s sticky.

It smelled strange too.

Was it ink? Or blood?

Probably blood.

I opened my eyes and looked at the deck that was a mess with the Kraken’s blood.

Fortunately, no one seemed to be seriously injured, as everyone was getting up while staggering.

The protection spell must have worked properly, as there were no signs of anything being broken.

I immediately rolled my eyes, keeping a close watch on the Kraken’s movements.

This thing wouldn’t be subdued with just one hit.

As expected, I heard a crashing sound.

On the right.

The angry creature seemed to be trying to strike the ship with its tentacles.

No matter how much it was enveloped in a protection spell, it couldn’t completely ignore the laws of physics.

Before the ship could capsize, I quickly gave an order to Renny.

“Renny! On the right!”

“On the right? Got it!”

Renny’s greatsword swung magnificently.

The greatsword, swung lightly as if wielding a toy sword, sliced through half of the tentacle that was trying to smash the deck.

The scream resounded once more.

Renny’s sword swung again.

The half-severed tentacle splattered blood, but Renny relentlessly attacked the cut surface of the tentacle as if chopping firewood, paying no heed to it.

In the end, unable to withstand Renny’s fierce attack, the tentacle wriggled and fell onto the deck.

It seemed to be roughly the size of a humpback whale.

“We’ll have food for several days…”

The freshness might be an issue, but we’ll manage somehow.

I felt satisfied with the successfully concluded negotiation.

This is how negotiation should be done.

Taking an eyeball and obtaining food for several days.

Wasn’t this the epitome of a perfect negotiation?

“Huh? Is it running away?”

At Renny’s words, I looked at the Kraken and saw it sinking into the water while expressing pain.

No matter how much of a giant monster it was, it couldn’t help but feel pain when its eyeball burst.

Just as the Kraken had appeared, scattering a terrifying presence, it made an inglorious exit in the opposite manner.

“It’s a pity it didn’t die.”

It would have been clean if we could have killed it while we had the chance.

But it won’t be able to attack us for a while, so we won’t see it again once we escape from here.

I grabbed the steering wheel again.

Perhaps it was just my feeling, but the fog seemed to have thinned out as the Kraken fled, similar to the dungeon on the deserted island.

Was it emitting fog from its body like a pufferfish… Anyway, now was the best timing to escape the foggy sea area.

I ran to the helm, grasped the steering wheel with both hands, and started operating the ship.

At first, I couldn’t even change direction properly and would crash into reefs, but now I could steer the ship quite skillfully.

Indeed, people’s skills improve rapidly when they roll around in real combat.

Although it took consuming three ships to get used to it.

“Everyone, hold on tight! We’re going to escape this foggy sea area!”

“Right now?!”

“We won’t crash like last time, right?!”

“Let’s go!”

The wind whipped through my hair as it passed by.

As we crossed the sea area where the fog was thinner than ever before, the light on the deck gradually began to expand its area.

As the sunlight that couldn’t penetrate through the fog became clearer the more we left the sea area, a crying sound was heard from behind.

Was it the Kraken?

Looking back, I saw the Kraken glaring at me with purple bloody tears.

But the distance had already widened as much as possible.

No matter how fast that thing swam, it was faster for us to escape the foggy sea area.

“Eat shit.”

I raised my middle finger at the Kraken that was staring at us intently.

“Eat it!”

What, when did you come?

Don’t imitate something like that.

When I politely folded my finger, Millia looked up at me as if asking why I did that.

“Don’t imitate things like that.”

“What is this?”

“It’s a bad thing, so don’t do it.”

“But why did you do it?”

“When you encounter a bad guy, you can’t help but want to do it at least once.”

“Then I want to do it too!”

Ah, it’s dizzying.

This is why they say not to do weird things in front of kids.

Why do I have to feel like a parent seeing a child who learned something strange, even though I’m single?

Moreover, she’s hundreds of years older than me.

“…Oh, whatever.”

Let it be.

I quietly opened the status window and started steering the ship while checking the remaining distance.

800km to go.

Estimated time required, roughly a month and a half.

I wanted to set foot on land quickly.

Because I wanted to clearly confirm the world of Survival Academy with my own two eyes, separate from the true ending.

Kinda reminds me of one of my first ttrpg sessions I ever played, where my group was in a similar situation. We ended up escaping the island way too easily, so the DM decided to sic a kraken on us. I had a heavy crossbow that I used to fire a makeshift explosive, and another guy was using a ballista mounted on the ship.

The DM nearly flipped the table when we BOTH rolled nat 20s lmfao
