“Captain! That ship looks intact! Let’s switch to that one!”

I received the telescope we obtained from Wilson 4 from Millia, who was engrossed in playing the role of a crew member, and examined the ghost ship.

It was the ghost ship in the best condition among the ones we had seen in the past few days.

Although it was a bit unsettling to see skeleton heads roaming around on the deck.

“Looks like we can use it for about a week… Wilson 7 is sold. Karina! Renny!”

It was very good. It was a big catch after a long time.

It had to be at least this much to be worth capturing.

Having understood the heart of a pirate for nearly a month, I turned the wheel while gauging the distance between the ghost ship and us.

“Our new family is right in front of us!”

“Luggage transfer preparations are done!”

“O Almighty Kalon…”

Indeed, doing this seven times has made us perfectly coordinated.

At this level, we could even become pirates.

Although it was a bit ambiguous to call it piracy since we were just clearing out ghost ships.

It’s not really piracy when we’re essentially just switching to an abandoned ship, right?

Ghosts and skeleton heads may be on board, but they’ll also appreciate us using the ghost ship.

Of course they will.

We’re sending them to heaven in exchange for the boarding fee.

Kalon would also laugh heartily and acknowledge our merciful actions, wouldn’t he?

Anyway, that’s how it will be.

In this foggy sea, isn’t it a profitable deal to receive a purification beam from the saint and go to the underworld rather than wander endlessly without being able to reach the afterlife?

What’s the point of drifting further in a place like this?

It’s not like they’re the Flying Dutchman, destined to endlessly roam this sea.

So we’re just volunteering and receiving ghost ships as donations in the process.

Hmm.

It was perfect logic even acknowledged by the saint, so I won’t accept any objections.

Not that there was anyone to object anyway.

“Captain, when will we be able to leave this sea area?”

“Who knows?”

When I opened the status window a while ago, it seemed like there were roughly 800km left.

The problem was that we hadn’t been able to escape this section for 15 days already.

We were somehow managing to replenish our food through fishing, but we couldn’t survive forever on fishing that barely caught two or three fish a day.

There were three people, no, four.

Should we count Millia as a person?

I looked at Millia’s back as she hummed and observed the ghost ship through the telescope.

Millia, who was the oldest among us but looked the youngest in appearance, would often run around on the deck and enjoy the view of the sea throughout the voyage.

It didn’t feel bad, as if I had gained a younger sibling.

“Renny! Furl the sails!”

“Okay!”

As we furled the sails that had been propelling the ship with the wind, our speed gradually decreased.

However, with the remaining acceleration, Wilson 6 was able to stick right next to Wilson 7.

“…Purify!”

Before the undead on the ghost ship could react, the light of purification poured down.

If this were a game, it would be the epitome of an insane experience burning event.

The status window would be a sight to behold at this level.

Although I couldn’t see other people’s status windows.

“Clean and tidy.”

“I’m first!”

“Be careful! If you drop your head into the sea like last time, it’ll be a huge problem!”

If her head hadn’t been floating around, it would have been a real disaster. Even then, it took nearly an hour to pick it up.

Fortunately, Millia crossed over to the ghost ship and ran around excitedly like a puppy seeing snow for the first time.

She had an overflowing amount of energy. How did she hold back the urge to do this when she was just a head?

…No, even then, she rolled around.

“Phew, there’s an annoyingly large amount. Johann! Come and help quickly!”

“Got it!”

Then I’ll start working too.

I began unloading luggage together with Renny, who was already taking out the cargo.

◇◇◇◆◇◇◇

“Oh, this ghost ship has a lot of facilities and stuff.”

“It seems like it was originally a cruise ship.”

It does look like it.

Wilson 7, which we had diligently cleaned and tidied up, had quite luxurious decorations engraved here and there, suggesting it had been a cruise ship.

To lose a ship like this, the owner must have been quite devastated.

Ah, of course, the owner might have been among the ghosts on this ship.

Anyway, I explored various parts of the ship and checked the condition of the structures connected to the steering wheel.

The condition was good. The sails needed to be replaced.

The holes in the ship would be patched up by dismantling Wilson 6, and I’ll check what operating facilities there are.

Finally, I’ll go around the cabins and storage rooms to see if there are any useful items to collect, and then today’s schedule will be over.

“Johann! Look at this!”

“…A book?”

“It seems to be a log! It was in a place like the captain’s room!”

“A log?”

I received the notebook from Millia.

The log had become wrinkled from being wet and dry repeatedly due to drifting in the sea for a long time.

I carefully opened the log while sitting on a crate.

Fortunately, although the writing inside the log was slightly smudged, it was still legible enough.

[Month X, Day XX.

The mood is not good.

The fog is so thick that we can’t see an inch ahead, and at some point, the ship has deviated from its original route, so I can see the passengers’ complaints gradually building up.

Damn it.

This was supposed to be my last voyage, so why is this happening?

James said he spotted a strange figure in the fog, could it be… that monster?]

“A monster?”

“It says a monster.”

There aren’t many things that come to mind when you mention a monster in this sea.

It looked very old, so I didn’t know if that monster still existed now.

“Let’s read the next part too.”

“I know, so don’t nag me.”

Don’t naturally cling to me because it’s uncomfortable. And don’t put your head on top of my head.

[Month X, Day XX

Damn it.

How did things turn out like this?

A ghost ship, a ghost ship!

To encounter the ones you should never meet at sea, what sin have I committed!

No, I need to get a grip.

I have 35 years of experience at sea.

This is not the time to panic in a situation like this.

We need to escape from that ghost ship as quickly as possible…]

“Ghost ship? Was it that dangerous?”

“…We have Karina, so.”

It was inevitable that we didn’t feel threatened since we had Karina, the decisive weapon against ghost ships.

In the end, a ghost ship is a ship steered by ghosts.

Given the nature of ghosts, they have no choice but to disappear without a trace when hit by the saint’s purification beam.

Unfortunately, it seemed there wasn’t a single clergyman among the passengers on this ship.

“May the deceased rest in peace…”

“Rest in peace…”

[Month X, Day XX

Haha! Yes! Even if I’m old and called a has-been, my skills haven’t gone anywhere!

I succeeded in escaping from that damn ghost ship.

The fog is gradually thinning out, so if we escape like this, we’ll be able to set foot on our hometown again.

Ellie, I await the day I get to see Ted again.

When I return, I’ll have to sit my cute grandchildren on my lap and tell them about my heroic tales.

I look forward to that day…]

“It’s written that they almost escaped the sea area, but seeing as they became a ghost ship…”

“It seems they encountered the ghost ship or that monster at the very end.”

“Isn’t that monster going to attack us?”

“That’s a possibility.”

“Th-then will we become ghosts too?”

“Can you even become a ghost?”

You’re already dead.

No, are you even alive?

I did revive her with an item, but her past was basically a kind of setting, and she was resurrected as a Dullahan because she was born with her head not attached.

She didn’t seem to be undead, considering she didn’t take much damage from Karina’s holy power and such…

I picked up Millia’s head from on top of my head and placed it on her neck, then stood up from my seat.

“Then go back to work soon. I need to steer the ship.”

“Got it! Captain! See you later!”

I watched Millia running across the deck for a moment, then placed my hand on the wheel.

We had finished the work of dismantling Wilson 6 and repairing Wilson 7, and it was about time to check if the ship was functioning properly.

“The wheel is a bit stiff.”

It was only natural for a ghost ship that hasn’t been properly maintained.

I tried turning the wheel back and forth with force and watched Renny replacing the sails in the distance.

Normally, it would be impossible for someone to change those huge sails alone, but that robust woman boasting healthy skin wouldn’t have any trouble with the weight of sails.

As I expected, Renny easily changed the sails and started pulling the ropes to unfurl them.

The sails, which had been passed down from Wilson 1, were made of bear skin, so the color was a bit off, but their performance was certain.

“If we’re unlucky, it’ll take another two months.”

It would be nice if we could find an island or something to resupply along the way.

I leaned against the wheel of the newly adopted seventh Wilson and glared at the heavily foggy sea.

Ah, not this direction.

I turned the wheel to find the right direction.

If you’re going to let me know anyway, you could at least tell me the direction too.

This unfriendly status window that only shows the distance finally reduced it by 0.1km as if doing me a favor.

Now if we just keep going in this direction, we can escape this sea area…

That’s when it happened.

“Captain! Look over there!”

At Millia’s shout, I turned my head and looked in the direction she was pointing.

Something was squirming in the fog.

It seemed to be gradually getting bigger and approaching us.

…I don’t have to find Wilson 8 right away, do I?

“…Fuck. Can’t they let us have some peace?”

I cursed and drew the shovel from my back.
