◇◇◇◆◇◇◇

Henderson, who had turned around, had to doubt his own eyes.

Schlus Hainkel, who should have been so grateful for sparing his life that he wouldn’t know what to do, was holding up his hand.

And those fingers were pointing at Henderson.

“You thought you could return safely after infiltrating the dormitory?”

“Ha! Haha! Seriously! Are you trying to fight me right now?”

Henderson, who realized his meaning after a bit of time, laughed like a madman.

It wasn’t a laugh that came out automatically due to his brain injury.

It was a laugh that came out because he was truly dumbfounded.

“Didn’t I tell you my name earlier? I’m Henderson! The Crow Henderson! You don’t know? The Crown Prince assassin! The strongest Crow! You don’t know? And you…… Heh, hehehe…… This is really absurd.”

The name of the Crow Henderson was known to everyone not just in the Empire, but throughout the entire continent.

In some regions, there was even a rumor that if a child cried, Henderson would come and take them away, to the point where he had become a symbol of fear.

And yet, you’re really trying to pick a fight with me?

After laughing for a while, Henderson flipped his hair and became serious.

Although his eyes were glaring, his mouth was stretched wide in a grin, a somewhat bizarre seriousness.

Dong…… Dong…… Dong……

“You have no respect for your seniors?”

The sound of the clock signaling midnight rang out.

It seemed he wasn’t doing this because he didn’t know Henderson’s name.

He was probably so intoxicated with his own talent that his arrogance was reaching the heavens.

In that case, there was no choice but to show him how high the sky was.

He should avoid vital points since it would be difficult for him to be active as a Crow if he sustained a fatal injury.

Then…… should he tear off his jaw?

If he had it quickly reconnected with magic, there would be no risk of death either.

And that arrogant mouth wouldn’t be able to babble anymore.

Henderson put his hand in his pocket and fiddled with the luminescent stone inside.

“I’ll have to educate you first……”

In the middle of speaking, he dropped one luminescent stone as if by mistake.

As the luminescent stone rolled on the ground making a small sound, sure enough, Schlus’ gaze was drawn to it.

Henderson closed his eyes tightly and let out a cry of joy.

At that moment, the luminescent stone exploded, scattering a flash of light in all directions.

“…you bastard!”

“Ugh?!”

Henderson’s figure leaped to the front in an instant.

The moment the luminescent stone exploded, Schlus, who had been staring directly at it, would have lost his eyesight.

It was a simple but surefire trap that took advantage of human instincts.

Since no one could make their thoughts override their instincts in that brief moment, it had never failed even once until now.

Now all that was left was to rip out the jaw of Schlus, who had become combat incapacitated after losing his vision.

It was a truly perfect surprise attack.

“Huh?”

Henderson’s eyes widened as he thought that.

Schlus’ hand was accurately aiming at Henderson’s head.

Even if he moved to the side, the tip of his finger followed him without a single inch of error and continued to aim at him.

He must have definitely been hit directly by the explosion of the luminescent stone, so how was he seeing?

The moment such doubts arose in Henderson’s mind.

“Bang.”

“…!”

A small word flowed out of Schlus’ mouth.

Immediately after, a huge wave of mana engulfed Henderson.

Mana emission magic. It was such a fast-deploying magic that he couldn’t react, but it was fine.

Because the output of mana that hadn’t gone through elemental conversion wasn’t very high.

The lump of mana penetrated the barrier surrounding Henderson.

There were still 3 more layers of barriers inside.

Henderson was relieved, thinking they would definitely all be blocked, but-

“Huh?”

As the 2nd and 3rd barriers were shattered in succession, he was flustered.

But by then, it was already too late.

The dagger Henderson had thrown out was about to stab into Schlus’ jaw.

“Heh! Hahahaha!”

Bam!

The tsunami of mana directly struck Henderson’s head.

Unable to withstand the pressure, Henderson’s head shattered into pieces, and fragments of blood and flesh scattered behind, dirtying the corridor.

In the end, Henderson couldn’t even touch Schlus and simply collapsed to the ground. Without a head.

“……”

At that grotesque sight, Schlus was momentarily at a loss for words.

***

If this were a movie, it definitely wouldn’t get a general audience rating.

Such a thought suddenly occurred to me as I looked at the blood stains splattered all over the place.

“Haa……”

In the end, I succeeded in killing Henderson.

Now that I really felt it, the tension had completely dissipated.

There was no particularly impressive trick.

It was just that Schlus’ body was immune to luminescent stones.

Because there was no point in blinding eyes that were already dead.

After that, I used ‘Selection and Concentration’ on mana and poured all my mana into him at once.

His quadruple barrier could have defended against most attacks even if caught off guard by a surprise attack.

It was a setting that it could sufficiently block even if 50,000 mana was poured over it from a long distance.

But what if 100,000 mana was poured?

With a spell deployed in 0.01 seconds, he had no time to react and had all his barriers penetrated in an instant.

This gory scene was the result. Blood and flesh scattered everywhere.

I wonder if this can be cleaned off.

It seems I’ll have to completely change the wallpaper and carpet.

“…… Miss Emilia?”

Something slammed into my back with a thud.

Emilia was clinging to my clothes and burying her face in my back.

“Why…… Why……”

I felt intense trembling, and occasional sobbing sounds were heard.

No way, is she crying……? The steel-hearted Emilia?

There’s no way.

This must also be an act. Because Emilia was not a person who would get scared by something like this.

At the moment when my heart was wavering, my reason quickly reached a conclusion.

“You were really scared. It’s okay now.”

“No, that’s not it…… Why…… did you put a knife to your neck there……”

Is this an act……?

The sound of her choking up in between and sniffling kept confusing me.

Because it makes it seem like Emilia was really worried about me.

“I’m sorry. Because of me…… Because of me, you almost died. I only got in the way……”

What do you mean, got in the way?

If Emilia hadn’t struggled and bought time, my neck would have probably flown off before midnight when the ability’s cooldown reset.

“No. If Miss Emilia hadn’t made a sound, I wouldn’t have woken up. Miss Emilia saved my life.”

It was a lie. I was never asleep in the first place.

I had been awake the whole time because something felt off.

“But why…… Why did you risk your life for someone like me……”

“Aren’t you my attendant? From the day we made the contract, I had the duty to take responsibility for Miss Emilia’s life.”

Because if Emilia died, Hertlocker would become a villain that no one could control.

So I had no choice but to save her even at the cost of my own life.

Emilia’s death was equivalent to the destruction of this world.

“Miss Emilia.”

“Yes?”

I turned around and looked down at Emilia.

Her face was a complete mess with tears and snot.

I was impressed that she could act to this extent to become an Intelligence Agency ace.

“If you want, we can terminate the contract.”

“What? No. Why the contract-”

“Think carefully before answering. Because it’s a matter of life and death. From now on, incidents like this will occur endlessly. Miss Emilia will fall into countless crises like today.”

I’m being serious.

To be honest, if you ask me if I can save Emilia every time like today…… That’s difficult to answer.

Because if Emilia dies, Hertlocker will completely turn evil, and the ending will become a million light-years away, so I must save her no matter what.

Considering that, it’s right to keep Emilia away.

But the benefits of keeping Emilia by my side are also considerable.

Currently, Emilia is the only link between the Intelligence Agency and me.

In order to appeal that I’m harmless to the Intelligence Agency and even favorable, I need to keep Emilia close to me.

If I can’t make the Intelligence Agency my ally, it’s the same as being endlessly far from the ending.

So Emilia was like a double-edged sword.

“Each time, I will do my best to save Miss Emilia, but there will be times when I’m unlucky. It’s difficult to always guarantee your safety. Even so, will you remain as my attendant?”

It was too difficult for me to choose.

So I passed the choice to Emilia herself.

Whether to stay. Or to leave.

Emilia’s answer was obvious.

She probably didn’t know it would be this dangerous, so of course……

“I’ll stay.”

“…… Pardon?”

I thought she would leave.

How did this happen?

“If Mr. Hainkel is okay with it, I’ll stay. I’ll do my best to serve you. I’ll try not to be a hindrance. I’ll follow you to the ends of the continent. So please don’t let me go……”

Emilia grabbed my hand with both of her hands and got close.

Right. Emilia was someone who prioritized the success of the mission over her own safety. I belatedly remembered that.

This was also her desperate struggle to succeed in the mission, so to speak.

I pulled my hand out while holding back the laughter that was about to escape. And then I held it out to Emilia again.

Emilia, who tilted her head for a moment while looking at that hand, seemed to understand my intention and carefully held it with one hand.

“Then it’s a re-contract. Let’s increase the monthly salary by 100 percent.”

“Hehe, thank you.”

Emilia looked up at me with a seductive smile.

Even though I knew it was a calculated smile to sway my heart, I almost fell for it.

To that extent, Emilia smiling while drenched in tears was beautiful. And also attractive.

Seeing my character that I created shining brilliantly, I felt an indescribable satisfaction and ended up smiling again.

***

The aftermath was handled swiftly.

As soon as I mentioned the name Henderson, Sergey and Ludwig were summoned in less than an hour, and they began investigating the mansion with the Investigation Department personnel after closing it off.

The conclusion was reached unexpectedly quickly. The conclusion was that the corpse belonged to Henderson.

I was surprised they figured it out even though the head was missing.

They seemed to have collected fingerprints or something in advance.

“Are you hurt anywhere?”

“No. I’m fine.”

Sergey approached and spoke to me.

Unlike his usual self, he didn’t slap my back hard, and had a somewhat serious demeanor.

“Thank goodness you’re safe. I have so many things I want to say, but first I have to apologize.”

“Apologize for what?”

“I was in charge of the investigation after the last terror incident, but for something like this to happen…… I’m really ashamed.”

Sergey slightly bowed his head.

The school does have some responsibility for the intrusion, but…… among the barriers made by humans, there is none that Henderson can’t penetrate.

It was like an unavoidable disaster.

Nevertheless, the fact that he deliberately bowed his head and apologized to a commoner showed Sergey’s broad-mindedness.

“It’s fine. For now, I’m sleepy and want to go back to sleep, so when can I use the mansion again?”

“What? You’re sleepy now? After killing Henderson……”

“I have class tomorrow, Professor.”

“Tsk. You’re quite carefree. Okay. Let’s talk about the details after getting some sleep. But you probably won’t be able to use the single dormitory room tonight.”

I knew it would be like this.

It was the death of Henderson, whom the Imperial Family had been chasing for years.

The mansion would probably only be unsealed after people from the Imperial Police and the Palace came and checked.

So I thought they would provide me with a room in the dormitory.

I’ll have to stay there for the time being.

At that moment, a low voice was heard from behind.

“Then I’ll give you the chairwoman’s residence.”

“Pardon?”

“If you want, you can stay there for a while, or you can return to the single dormitory room later. The chairwoman doesn’t use the residence anyway.”

When I turned around, it was Ludwig standing with his hands behind his back.

The chairwoman’s residence refers to that huge 4-story mansion located on the school grounds?

And it’s empty? Why……?

‘Ah.’

Come to think of it, there was a setting that Alexia sleeps curled up on the desk in the chairwoman’s office.

It wouldn’t be strange for the chairwoman of the Imperial Academy to have a mansion on the school grounds, so that huge mansion ended up being empty.

The chairwoman’s residence, which was rarely even mentioned in the original work, appeared in this way.

But there’s one person who will be in trouble if the mansion suddenly becomes more than twice as large.

Emilia. Her cleaning burden will increase tremendously.

“It’s protected by the chairwoman’s high-output barrier, so you don’t have to worry about being attacked.”

“Alright. For now, I’m sleepy, so I need to go and sleep first. Miss Emilia?”

“Yes? Ah? Yes……”

“But why is your attendant like that?”

“It seems she’s in shock after seeing the blood. Don’t mind her.”

Emilia followed behind me with a dazed face.

Seeing her walking unsteadily with no strength, I realized.

That’s not an act.

She’s probably regretting making the re-contract by now.

Well, he is little dense. But for him, they are all characters created by him. He doesn’t even consider them humans. So for him their settings are fixed.
