◇◇◇◆◇◇◇
Jeong Yoo-shin slung his arming sword over his shoulder and raised his shield.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
The heavy footsteps of the goblin warriors grew closer.
The figures of the goblin mob emerged from the darkness.
Clubs, spears, daggers, axes.
They wielded a variety of weapons.
They looked relatively clean, considering where they must have picked them up.
“Gallerheim!”
Jeong Yoo-shin shouted.
Twang!
Gallerheim fired a bolt.
Ssweeek!!!
The bolt sailed past the goblin shaman and disappeared into the darkness.
“Damn it!”
Gallerheim cursed.
Jeong Yoo-shin glared at Gallerheim.
It was like the pot calling the kettle black.
Seeing him get angry after missing his shot made Jeong Yoo-shin want to smack him in the head.
[Haste]
Pyrion then finished his incantation.
Jeong Yoo-shin’s body felt lighter.
He couldn’t spare any more attention to Gallerheim.
A goblin warrior was charging at them head-on.
Jeong Yoo-shin gripped his sword tightly.
‘Come on.’
“Kkeeeeeeek!!!”
The goblin warrior charged at him and swung its club.
Jeong Yoo-shin sidestepped half a step.
Kwaaaaaang!!!
The floor shattered, and stone fragments flew.
The goblin warrior’s posture crumbled due to the weight of the club.
The hand gripping the club caught his eye.
‘An opening.’
He raised his foot and stomped on the goblin’s wrist.
Thump!!!
Crack!!!
Jeong Yoo-shin’s iron boot shattered the goblin warrior’s wrist bones.
“Kkeeeeeeek!!!”
The goblin warrior screamed and dropped its club.
‘A chance.’
He raised his arming sword, intending to thrust it under the goblin warrior’s chin.
Ssweeek!!!
A bolt cut through the darkness and flew towards Jeong Yoo-shin.
“Shit!”
Kwagakak!!!
He raised his shield to block it.
He blocked the bolt.
But…
Wham!!!
He was struck by the enraged goblin warrior’s other hand.
Jeong Yoo-shin tumbled across the floor and crashed into the cave wall.
The shoulder of his light armor was dented.
“Skar!!!”
Soline shouted.
She was struggling against the other goblin warrior and couldn’t come to his aid.
Jeong Yoo-shin sprang up from the floor like a jack-in-the-box.
[Revenger]
The imprint was activated.
Blue flames streamed from the eye slits of his helmet.
He charged again.
The goblin warrior grabbed its club with its good hand and swung wildly.
Kwaaaang!!!
Kwaaaang!!!
Jeong Yoo-shin dodged the club by leaping left and right.
‘The knee.’
He thrust his sword.
The sharp tip of his sword pierced the goblin warrior’s kneecap and lodged itself firmly within.
“Kueeeeek!!!”
The goblin warrior’s body stiffened.
He didn’t stop.
He stepped forward, closing the distance with the goblin warrior.
He drew the dagger from his waist and plunged it under the goblin warrior’s chin.
The dagger pierced its jaw and ripped through its brain.
Instant death.
The goblin warrior’s lifeless body began to slowly collapse.
Jeong Yoo-shin stepped back while pulling out his arming sword from the goblin’s knee.
“Skar!”
Soline’s voice brightened.
“Get a grip!”
He shouted briefly and raised his shield.
Kwagagak!!!
A goblin’s spear scraped against his shield.
He lowered his stance, stabbed the goblin in the stomach with his sword, and retreated.
“Keek!”
The goblin dropped its weapon and clutched its stomach.
‘It dropped its weapon?’
He kicked its jaw with his iron boot.
Crack!!!
The goblin, its jaw shattered, flew briefly through the air and then rolled across the floor.
Jeong Yoo-shin secured his shield to his wrist and grabbed the spear.
Twang!!!
The faint sound of a crossbow string echoed from afar.
‘Here it comes.’
He quickly raised his shield.
Kwaak!!!
A bolt, fired from the darkness, lodged itself in his shield.
“Gallerheim! Try to hit something this time!!!”
“A-Alright!”
Gallerheim raised his crossbow. His target was the goblin shaman.
Twang!!!
The sound of a crossbow string echoed from afar.
The bolt was aimed at Gallerheim.
The startled Gallerheim flinched.
“Fuck!!!”
Jeong Yoo-shin rushed forward and swung his sword.
Clang!!!
His hand, gripping the sword, tingled.
Fortunately, the bolt had struck the blade of his sword directly.
He had averted the crisis.
But the bolt Gallerheim had fired grazed the goblin shaman.
It was only natural that he missed, given his shaken composure.
Jeong Yoo-shin clicked his tongue, threw his sword to the ground, and gripped the spear tightly.
The goblin shaman raised its staff.
“Hooo!!!”
He twisted his waist with all his might.
The goblin shaman opened its mouth.
Jeong Yoo-shin threw the spear with all his strength.
Swoooosh!!!
A tremendous whooshing sound echoed through the cave.
Thwack!!!
The spear, flying at incredible speed, pierced through three goblins at once and lodged itself precisely in the goblin shaman’s throat.
“Khek!! Khek!!”
The goblin shaman stopped its incantation, clutched its throat, stumbled, and retreated.
“Stay behind me!”
Jeong Yoo-shin picked up his sword as he told this to the elf and the gnome, and ran forward.
His destination was where Soline was.
Soline was fighting a goblin warrior without giving an inch.
But she was being gradually pushed back by the lesser goblins harassing her.
“I’m here!”
“Skar!”
Jeong Yoo-shin charged and swung his sword.
Swoooosh!!!
The sharp blade of his arming sword sliced through a goblin’s neck.
Twang!!!
Another bolt flew.
Aimed at him.
He threw himself flat on the ground.
Thud!!!
The bolt struck the forehead of a goblin charging towards Jeong Yoo-shin.
The goblin collapsed on the floor like a lifeless log without even a scream.
He sprang up from the floor and swung his sword.
Every time his sword flashed, a goblin’s head flew into the air.
Fountains of blood erupted from the severed necks of the headless goblins. Gallerheim and Pyrion, following behind him, screamed.
He had dealt with all the lesser goblins.
The last one.
Only the goblin warrior remained.
While Soline fought it head-on, he circled behind and swung his sword.
His target was the goblin warrior’s ankle.
Sswaaaak!!!
The blade of his arming sword cleanly severed the goblin warrior’s Achilles tendon.
“Kkeeeeeeek!!!”
The goblin warrior screamed and swung its club wildly.
Kwaaaang!!!
Kwaaaang!!!
He dodged every blow by a hair’s breadth, stepping lightly, and swung his sword down.
‘The wrist.’
Sswaaaaak!!!
Blood spurted from the goblin warrior’s wrist like a spring from a rock crevice.
“Keeek!!!”
The goblin warrior dropped its club.
At the same time.
Bolts flew from the darkness.
Ssweeek!!!
Three this time.
Aimed at Gallerheim and Pyrion.
He knew instinctively.
He threw himself in front of his companions, raising his shield and thrusting his sword.
Kwagagak!!!
Clang!!!
Two bolts struck his shield, and one struck his sword.
Gallerheim, his face pale, was dumbfounded.
“No way, are you crazy?! Are you possessed by a god?”
“Later.”
Jeong Yoo-shin replied nonchalantly and turned around.
He had to kill the goblin warrior first.
The goblin warrior was still swinging its remaining arm in a daze.
Just then.
Soline charged forward and swung her great sword.
Sswaaaak!!!
The greatsword split the goblin warrior’s head in half and lodged itself in it.
“Guuh…”
Thump!!!
The goblin warrior, its brains spilling out, knelt on the floor.
Extermination complete.
Sswaak.
Soline pulled out her greatsword, slung it over her shoulder, and spoke.
“Skar, thank you.”
“Later.”
Jeong Yoo-shin looked down at his shield. It was tattered and riddled with bolts.
“Gallerheim, how much further do we have to go?”
Gallerheim unfolded his map.
He could see Gallerheim’s body twitching occasionally, wary of the bolts.
“Are you worried about the bolts? Relax. Could it be worse than dying?”
“N-No.”
‘As if.’
Jeong Yoo-shin muttered to himself as he walked among the goblin corpses.
Now that he had been attacked, he understood. These men weren’t hunters, but assassins.
Assassins targeting the Fifth Prince.
Even if they survived, it would be a problem. He couldn’t drag this mess outside of the labyrinth.
He considered asking Ingrid Redtail for help, but he dismissed the thought.
Being indebted to someone powerful?
That would be like walking into a lion’s den.
He would kill them here. All of them.
Jeong Yoo-shin made up his mind and spoke.
“Hey!!!”
The surroundings fell silent.
“W-What is it?”
Pyrion stammered.
Jeong Yoo-shin waved his hand dismissively.
“I wasn’t talking to our party, so don’t look at me like I’m crazy.”
“A… Alright.”
Pyrion managed to reply. His expression remained unchanged.
“Listen up, you rats squatting in the darkness.”
Jeong Yoo-shin spat out the words and walked over to pick up a torch.
No sound came from the darkness.
“You pathetic bastards. I can see it clearly even without looking. You’ve probably lived your entire lives making cowardly sneak attacks. Killing anyone, high or low, as you were told. Am I wrong? You’re the lapdogs of the powerful. What’s the point of living meaningless lives? Bark like dogs and die. Woof woof.”
“…”
He ignored the burning stares of his party members.
“You’re worthless fools.”
He glared at the silent darkness.
He had provoked them out of anger.
He hoped the provocation would work. He prayed that they would lose their temper and fire their bolts at him alone. That was the only way his party would survive.
Jeong Yoo-shin turned his head and looked down at the long-nosed gnome.
“Gallerheim, I assume you’ve finished your calculations by now?”
“It’s about five more hours from here.”
‘Ha.’
Jeong Yoo-shin swallowed a sigh.
“Let’s go.”
Jeong Yoo-shin said as he held the torch high.
His party members stuck closer to him than before as they cautiously proceeded through the darkness.
Jeong Yoo-shin looked into the darkness and spoke.
“Gallerheim.”
“What is it?”
“Tell me about that clown, Oswald or whatever his name is.”
“I-I don’t know much.”
“Stop sucking up to him and just tell me the truth.”
Gallerheim quickly brought his hand to his nose.
He couldn’t see it because of the special mask Gallerheim wore for his nose, but there were things he could sense without seeing.
“…”
“Do you think Oswald will spare you? Is that why you’re not talking? Is it okay for your party members to die as long as you survive?”
“…”
Gallerheim became silent.
“Tell me.”
“…”
Gallerheim scratched his head furiously.
Jeong Yoo-shin remained silent and waited patiently.
“Ha… Alright. Oswald’s imprint ability is…”
Gallerheim finally gave in. But he still seemed afraid, glancing at the darkness as he spoke.
He whispered, as if afraid someone might hear.
After what felt like enough time to drink a cup of tea, he finished.
The party’s atmosphere grew heavy. It was because of what they had learned about Oswald’s ability.
“…What should we do?”
The elf priest, Pyrion, muttered gravely.
“…Hoo. That’s why I told you. It’s no use knowing.”
Gallerheim sighed and replied.
He could see his party members’ steps slowing down.
Jeong Yoo-shin organized his thoughts in silence.
The man with the painted face, Oswald.
An executive of the eastern district’s underworld clan, the Shadow Clowns.
His known imprints were:
[Veil of Darkness]
So-called Veil of Darkness, an imprint that drastically increased the stealth and noise reduction capabilities of not only himself but also his party.
He possessed unparalleled abilities in assassination and reconnaissance.
[Deadly Back Strike]
An imprint that dealt critical damage when attacking from behind.
Oswald likely possessed other imprints, but these two were all that Gallerheim knew.
Jeong Yoo-shin clicked his tongue.
These weren’t easy opponents.
Was there really no way?
A way to keep his party members safe while simultaneously burying these bastards here?
Especially Oswald.
A guy specialized in back attacks.
It galled him to see a guy with such broken imprints running around doing this kind of thing.
His head throbbed. It was agonizing to rack his brain between life and death.
“Huh!!!”
Gallerheim screamed.
“What’s wrong?”
Jeong Yoo-shin asked.
“Kkeeeeeeek!!!”
Instead of an answer, he instead heard the cry of a monster in the distance.
“Prepare for battle.”
The bolts hadn’t flown for a while now. He didn’t consider it fortunate. He figured they were up to something.
“Kkeeeeeeek!!!”
Jeong Yoo-shin’s eyebrows twitched.
The monster’s cry was different. It wasn’t a goblin.
“It’s a Face Centipede!!!”
Gallerheim shouted.
“Ha…”
Jeong Yoo-shin sighed.
Eldritch Wave.
It was a newly discovered phenomenon in the labyrinth.
A phenomenon he had discovered while struggling alongside Karin’s party.
A situation that relentlessly pushed them without giving them a moment to think.
It was as if the whole world was trying to kill him.
Jeong Yoo-shin looked around at his party.
They were trembling with fear. It seemed like they had heard about the Eldritch Wave too.
They looked disoriented. Their fighting spirit seemed broken as their raised weapons gradually lowered.
No. If their spirits broke here, they would crumble.
The party would easily disband, and all that would remain was a miserable death.
He couldn’t let that happen.
Jeong Yoo-shin took a deep breath and shouted.
“Get a grip!!!”
His roar echoed through the cave.
“Trust me!!! There’s a way to survive!!!”
His party members, who had been succumbing to despair, were startled and looked at Jeong Yoo-shin.
“…Skar, what is this method?”
The elf priest, Pyrion, asked.
He could see a faint glimmer of hope on Pyrion’s face.
Jeong Yoo-shin looked at Pyrion and spoke.
“The method is…”
In truth, there wasn’t one.
“Kkeeeeeeek!!!”
The monster’s roar grew closer.
Jeong Yoo-shin slung his arming sword over his shoulder and turned around.
“I’ll tell you later.”
◇◇◇◆◇◇◇
T/N – Easy. The method is to rip and tear until it is done!
Here we go again. It seems like every time the MC goes into the labyrinth, he encounters a monster wave of sorts. Though I remember the MC struggling against a goblin warrior once upon a time. Now he cut one up so quickly while being pestered by assassins. The spear throw too was pretty sick! They grow up so fast.
If you find any mistakes, feel free to point them out in the comments.
Thanks jay! Hopefully he bites the head off of at least one assassin
If he could just stay in the labyrinth that would be great, MC is so metal in there / fighting people.
I mean, every time this bastard goes in the labyrinth he faces a near death situation in around 5 days, maybe thats why he gets so many imprints?like I refuse to believe other explorers face the same amount of near death experiences as our protagonist does
damn our boy learn from gerald of rivia or what ? deflecting arrows with a sword is an op skill
