Wearing the school uniform again, I felt a sense of nostalgia. Yesterday, I was already wearing it, so I didn’t think much about it, but now, as I buttoned up the cardigan myself, I couldn’t help but feel the weight of time travel returning.
“I did wonder if all of this was just a dream when I went to bed last night.”
Honestly, I had some concerns before falling asleep, but waking up to the sight of the academy dormitory ceiling confirmed that I had indeed traveled back in time. I had returned.
For some reason, I was back to being 18, my childhood years. The opportunity had presented itself. Preventing the destruction of humanity was too grand a goal that I couldn’t quite grasp. After all, I had been expelled from the academy and spent most of my time living in the Demon Realm Forest, where I rarely saw humans unless it was to buy necessities.
But, as I mentioned yesterday, I had doubts about why Rin had changed so much. If I could solve that mystery, perhaps I could save the world in the process.
“First, I need to consider my options.”
To do that, I had to avoid getting expelled again. Warming up my body, I headed to the academy.
Thankfully, I still remembered where my class was located. E Class – it was the class in the furthest corner. Not that it meant we were any less talented than class A, but at that time, A Class had a reputation for having many talented students.
This was mainly because our school competitions and exams were often structured in a way that pitted the four classes against Class A. Our classroom was filled with students, and as I looked around, I started to recognize faces.
“Wow, these are real memories.”
Personally, my time at the academy felt short, but seeing it now brought back a smile. Memories have a way of becoming exaggerated over time, but for me, the memories of the academy had taken on a more positive direction.
“That person was here too.”
As the classroom door opened and a blonde girl entered, I remembered her from yesterday. The same girl who had come to my room asking about my relationship with Ares.
She spotted me as soon as she entered the classroom and walked up to me.
“Hey! You should take back what you said about Ares.”
Ares’ fish1 flailed wildly at me. [T/N yes that is what he said i’m not crazy.]
I smirked and looked out the window and asked, “What do you mean?”
She clenched her fist and slammed it on the desk. “Cancel what you said about Ares being ‘that kind of guy.’ He’s clearly much better than you, and way more good-looking!”
“I Cancel it.”
“Come on, don’t joke around!”
I replied reluctantly, but my answer clearly didn’t sit well with her. She came at me with even more determination.
“Class is starting.”
As the professor entered the room, the girl, flustered, ended up hastily taking the empty seat beside me.
‘Wow, Professor Amanda looks exactly as I remember her.’
Professor Amanda exuded a mature womanly charm and had been somewhat popular among male students. She was our homeroom teacher, as far as I could recall.
I listened to the lecture, though it didn’t particularly captivate my interest. I found myself gazing at the blackboard, lost in my thoughts.
Then, a piece of paper nudged my elbow.
“Apologize!”
I sighed deeply and looked at her. Her eyes were brimming with tears.
“Why are you crying?”
In her surprise, she began to write something on the paper she extended toward me. It looked like she was wiping away a tear as she did so.
“I didn’t cry.”
Yeah, she didn’t cry, alright.
With no further interest, I turned my gaze back to the blackboard. The girl seemed flustered and started writing all sorts of things on the paper.
“Ares is such a wonderful guy. Who are you to talk about him that way?”
After that, a few more notes were passed to me, but I continued to ignore them. There was no point in paying attention to this situation when I already knew Ares was well-liked by many girls, and my comments wouldn’t make much of a difference.
When the class ended and it was break time, I decided to go to the restroom. However, I was followed by the girl who had been bothering me.
“What’s your deal? Why do you keep ignoring me?”
I was about to respond with irritation when a black-haired girl passed by us in the hallway.
Walking down the hallway with her friends, Rin spotted me and approached cautiously.
“Hey, Daniel.”
“Sorry, I need to use the restroom right now.”
I had to avoid contact with Rin for now. I excused myself because I don’t know how things would change if I stepped in. I justified it to myself, saying I had to be cautious about how this situation would unfold.
Although my true feelings were that seeing the face of the woman who had stabbed my heart didn’t sit well with me.
As Rin and her friends passed by and I continued to walk, the blonde girl followed us, seemingly unnoticed by them.
“I don’t like her.”
“Hey, can you please be quiet?”
It was the same situation as before. My overlapping memories of the woman who had caused my anxiety only made it harder to breathe. As I leaned against the wall, struggling to catch my breath, the girl came closer.
“What’s wrong with you? Why are you like this? You’re sweating like crazy!”
“No, it’s fine…”
“What do you mean, ‘fine’? Let’s go to the nurse’s office right now!”
I wondered why people were suddenly being so concerned about me. But then again, it wasn’t such a bad feeling. Eris had been like that too, overreacting to minor injuries and fussing over me. Although I would have bandaged myself up more neatly, back then, it seemed that the less skillful approach worked better.
Looking back, I realized that our relationship back then wasn’t just a matter of a client and a guide. It was more than that.
After my breathing had calmed down, and I returned to a peaceful expression, I pointed at a guy with my hand.
“Hey, isn’t that Ares over there?”
“What? Where?”
“I’m okay, just go check it out. If you’re too late, other girls will steal him away.”
“I know that!”
I replied bluntly, which seemed to irritate her. She turned her head back and checked my condition before sticking her tongue out.
“Fine.”
The girl following me seemed somewhat cute, especially when compared to the many attractive female students around Ares.
“She might look even prettier with a little makeup.”
I muttered to myself but didn’t dare say it aloud. With no one around, I continued toward the restroom.
***
It seemed like his nerves had been on edge due to the possibility of expulsion last night.
Hearing that he had not only been sharp with herself, but he had also been quite irritable with Ares gave her some comfort.
Maybe waking up in his bed this morning had some comforting effect on him, she smiled faintly.
‘Daniel always had a timid side to him. He probably won’t be able to come and apologize in person.’
Seeing Daniel today, she had a feeling that she should talk to him as first as if nothing happened, so she secretly began moving to class E with her friends that had been walking with her to class.
As they were about to enter the E class area, she noticed Daniel, with his black hair just like hers, coming out of the classroom.
She noticed a blonde female student following him, she wondered if the person was a new friend but she didn’t care enough about it to think about it more.
When she approached him and was about to speak, he quickly excused himself.
“Sorry, I need to use the restroom right now.”
With this response, Daniel evaded her.
“Rin, don’t hang out with him too much.”
“Is that the guy from the rumors? Ugh, how did you end up becoming friends with someone like him?”
Although her two friends on either side expressed their concerns, Rin didn’t pay much attention to what they were saying. It seemed that she couldn’t even hear them properly, only registering their voices as a distant hum. However, suddenly she felt the need to speak to him again.
“Guys, I’m sorry, but I left something in the classroom. I’ll be right back. You can go ahead.”
She told her friends as she turned to head back towards Daniel. She watched from a distance as a boy and a girl quarreled, standing there and observing their interaction with a puzzled expression.
‘What’s going on?’
At first, the blonde girl seemed concerned about Daniel, but as time passed, she began teasing and joking with him. Daniel didn’t seem too upset either, as he chuckled and quietly mumbled something.
“Maybe you’d look even prettier with a little makeup.”
Those words echoed clearly in Rin’s ears.
Then Daniel went inside the restroom, Rin looked at the spot where Daniel had been standing, feeling somewhat bewildered.
‘What did he just say?’
What could Daniel have said just now? That she might look even prettier with a little makeup? Why would he say such a thing?
Especially considering he had never said anything like that to her who was his childhood friend and was always with him.
‘Why is he treating me so coldly?’
Why all of a sudden?
Rin stood there silently for a while, then she slowly turned around and left.

hmmm, I wonder how long the mc will avoid rin?
I mean, can you blame him? It was only a few days after he learned she’s the enemy’s commander, and she even killed him herself. Guy must’ve suffered a lot by her hands before he found out her identity.
Except, if I understood it correctly, he did notice there were tears streaming down he face, so it didn’t seem so willing. And he had to suspect something twisted her in some way – so what does he do? Treat her like crap, which clearly won’t help the problem.
This is practically the first day back still, possibly the second if you count the previous day where he went from the deans office to his bedroom. No matter if he realizes she didn’t want to or not seeing the face of the person who killed you is going to summon negative feelings. Part of him avoiding her is to spare her from those emotions as he works through them. Also, he seems to not have been very close to them to begin with really, outside of their village. They don’t hang out besides out of sight of others and nasty rumors are spread about him yet they don’t stick up for him.
You can’t suddenly stop trauma man ptsd is shit, and bro needs therapy.
Not to mention that it’s been implied they barely have contact since they came to the academy. The impression at the start, especially with what he said about the villagers talking about Ares and Rin as a perfect couple, is that he was a third wheel. At least in his head he’s probably just sorta friends with the two while Rin (and maybe Ares) think way more of the mc.
