‘The Lightning Bomb became useless in this way…’

Jin Cheongang made a grim face as he looked at the Lightning Bomb rolling on the ground in vain. The black-clad figures who noticed the situation were the same.

It couldn’t be helped since their secret weapon had been blocked in an absurd way.

William noticed that the morale of the Black Shark Squad had fallen and gripped the polearm again.

‘It looks like slightly less than three hundred.’

Still too many for him.

But few for the people of Haenam Island.

William quietly turned his head and met the gaze of the Sect Leader who was looking at him.

“Everyone, throw down your bows and draw your swords.”

At the Sect Leader’s voice filled with strength, the disciples threw their bows to the ground. The arrows were almost all used up, and there was no point in holding bows, which weren’t their specialty, anymore.

From now on, it was not the time for bows, but swords.

Both the martial artists of the Haenam Sword Sect.

And the martial artists of the Black Wolf Squad.

They were all swordsmen.

In the field of swordsmen, with a swordsman just a step away from him, William, who held a polearm instead, infused aura into his toes.

A simple and crude utilization method that was embarrassing to even call a footwork technique.

But not all fighting is done with complicated footwork.

Sometimes the simple defeats the complex… An atmosphere of imminent all-out war pervaded the entire hillside.

With the elders and the entire leadership of the Haenam Sword Sect at the forefront, they looked down at the Black Shark Squad, and William who faced them from the side.

‘Is he really going to go in all alone?’

Jin Cheongang looked at William with an incredulous expression.

An unidentified foreigner with outstanding skills.

Since his actual skills were superior despite their realms being roughly similar, the plan had faced a critical problem.

He wanted to tear him apart and kill him right away, but Jin Cheongang couldn’t rashly step forward.

‘I might lose the last Lightning Bomb if I’m not careful.’

If this Lightning Bomb also became useless, even the slightest hope would disappear. He gripped his sword hilt among the black-clad figures and looked up at Lin Habong, the Sect Leader of the Haenam Sword Sect.

In the current martial arts world, where there are more supreme experts than the previous generation, there are only about fifty supreme experts in the entire martial arts world.

Could he kill the Sect Leader of the Haenam Sword Sect, who is one of those fifty?

Jin Cheongang shook his head.

If the Lightning Bomb struck directly, he would die, but would a martial artist at the supreme level easily fall for the scheme of a martial artist at the peak level?

If the original plan had proceeded as planned, it might be different, but the plan had completely failed from the start.

Jin Cheongang gritted his teeth.

‘There’s… no chance of survival.’

Just look at the martial artists of the sect glaring at them as if they want to cut them apart right away. Jin Cheongang calmed his turbulent mind amidst the battlefield filled with killing intent.

‘If I’m going to die anyway, I’ll take the Sect Leader with me.’

Even if he dies, he will complete the mission somehow.

The mission that the leaders of the demon cult emphasized over and over again for their great cause.

As a member of the demon cult, he had to fulfill his mission.

“All members of the Black Shark Squad. Advance forward. We need to restrict the movements of Sect Leader Lin Habong as much as possible. Understood?”

Instead of answering, the Black Shark Squad members straightened their bodies. Because they had to follow the orders of the leader they had trusted and followed until now. Seeing their appearance, a smile appeared on Jin Cheongang’s lips.

‘See you in the afterlife.’

“…One-point breakthrough, huh.”

William leisurely moved his eyes and observed the black-clad figures preparing for their final fight. From their action, he guessed that they possessed more Lightning Bombs.

William’s guess based on directly crossing weapons with them was that their leader was of a similar level. It would be far from enough to aim for the Sect Leader of the Haenam Sword Sect, who was definitely above him.

‘There must be only one method.’

If the leader had multiple Lightning Bombs, he could just throw several at the Sect Leader and be done with it. But carefully hiding among the troops and aiming for the main force meant that the number of Lightning Bombs was not much.

Seeing Jin Cheongang’s determined face, William speculated that there would be at least one, at most two Lightning Bombs.

‘Anyway, as long as he can’t throw the Lightning Bombs, it’s fine.’

Without the Lightning Bombs, they were just a ragtag bunch of exhausted peaks and a mass of first-rate experts.

‘I’ll draw attention. And if possible, aim for Jin Cheongang.’

The immediate goal was set. William gripped the shaft with both hands and burst out with the aura built up in his toes. With the sound of the ground exploding, William’s figure shot forward.

“The ones on the flank, block that foreigner!”

“Understood!”

The Black Shark Squad members on the flank turned the tips of their swords towards William. Seeing that, William pulled his arm back in a way that was easy to swing the polearm.

He didn’t care that numerous swords were aiming at him.

Charging into a den of people aiming for his life with fierce eyes wide open.

Nothing was more familiar to William than that.

His polearm was swung with a sonic boom. A simple motion of swinging from right to left.

But that slash carried tremendous power, so the Black Shark Squad members couldn’t even think of blocking it and retreated. If they had blocked it, their necks would have flown off along with their swords.

As the first attack was evaded, William naturally shouldered the polearm and switched his grip, as if he had expected it.

Naturally entering a thrusting stance, William thrust the pointed end of the shaft at the heart of the nearest black-clad figure without giving them a chance to notice the change.

“Ugh…”

“Not making a scream is not bad, but I don’t know if it’s a good thing for you.”

The black-clad figure pierced by William’s spear was dragged along. Caught off guard by the sudden event, the black-clad figures didn’t react. Seeing their dumbfounded appearance, William twisted his lips.

‘As expected, they haven’t properly experienced combat.’

William grabbed the figure.

Using the technique known as Heup-ja-gyeol in the Central Plains, he swung the polearm with the corpse that used to be a person hanging from it.

Naturally, the corpse slipped off the awl and flew into the air. The landing point was the front of the Black Shark Squad.

The members of the Black Shark Squad who had to catch their falling comrade’s body hesitated for a moment upon seeing it.

Should they cut it?

Should they catch it?

Either choice gnawed at their hearts.

The choice they made after agonizing was the former.

Blood and entrails burst out, soaking the bodies of the black-clad figures.

‘Camaraderie is important. But on the battlefield, you have to become more ruthless than anyone else.’

Those who couldn’t do that would have their heads fly off while hesitating.

William used the corpse as a cover and charged again towards the flank of the Black Shark Squad. This time, it was a charge with the head of the polearm at the forefront.

‘When did he get this close?!’

A Black Shark Squad member, whose attention was diverted by the blood and entrails sprayed by his flying comrade’s corpse, belatedly noticed William’s presence and raised his sword.

But it was too late.

‘I definitely blocked it-‘

This was his last thought before his consciousness was cut off. William thrust the polearm into the next opponent without even paying attention to the head flying in the air and the blood gushing from the neck.

However, this time it was blocked.

The black-clad figure who blocked the attack with his blade exchanged glances with another member. The black-clad figures defending the flank deployed the Black Wolf Step and surrounded William on all sides.

William pushed the black-clad figure away with the spike and retrieved his weapon.

‘Encirclement. They sure used their brains a bit.’

He glanced at the martial artists with visibly tense faces and smiled.

Even in a dangerous situation, he grinned fiercely and held the polearm upside down. The black-clad figures didn’t move rashly and thrust their swords at him.

“Eight of them.”

His polearm thrusts towards the nearest black-clad figure. The black-clad figure immediately reacted and dodged his thrust.

That created a big opening for William. The black-clad figures swung their swords at William, who had made a hasty attack, without hesitation.

There was no way to block the swords aiming at his vital points from all directions.

William’s response was simple.

Straight charge.

Block what can be blocked. Dodge what can be dodged.

Take what can be taken.

His clothes, which had been neat until just before, became tattered in various places. Blood flowed through the gaps, but there were no major wounds.

He immediately swung the polearm sideways, pushing the black-clad figure who had blocked the attack a few steps to the side, and thrust his body into the empty space.

At the same time, he retrieved his weapon and pierced the head of the black-clad figure attacking from the opposite side with the spike at the end of the polearm.

“Seven.”

“32!”

Someone’s sorrowful voice echoed across the battlefield. But taking one’s eyes off the opponent for such a thing was not allowed.

William kicked away 32, whose head was pierced, and naturally threw himself into the vacant spot. The black-clad figures were a step late due to his sudden action.

As soon as he broke free from the encirclement, William threw the polearm at the black-clad figures trying to surround him again. An unexpected attack with aura infused.

The black-clad figure who was in the air, rushing towards him, became the victim of the thrown weapon.

“Aargh!”

“27!”

27, whose stomach was pierced, crashed into a tree along while in his death throes.

“Six.”

William took out the sheild from his left waist and picked up the sword dropped by the black-clad figure.

The grip wasn’t familiar, but it was the perfect length to use with a shield.

He charged at the black-clad figures whose formation had collapsed like a violent rhinoceros.

“Don’t panic! There are still six of us left!”

Six against one.

Even if there is a difference in realm, they could engage in sword formations with this many.

But William wasn’t one to watch that happen. He jumped towards the nearest black-clad figure with a somewhat reckless movement.

Sensing the crisis, the black-clad figure’s sword drew a curve and aimed at William’s heart. A blow filled with tension. he was good prey for William.

He placed the sheild diagonally in the path of the sword. Just that alone made the black-clad figure’s body stagger greatly. His balance was broken as the sword strike was deflected.

And that became his final mistake.

Feeling the searing pain churning his stomach, 41 lowered his head, spitting blood from his mouth.

“Damn foreigner bas…”

“Five.”

At his appearance, counting numbers with a voice devoid of even a hint of emotion, fear rose on the faces of the Black Shark Squad members.

And that emotion was no different from a death sentence handed down to them.

Because fear was an emotion that invited death.

It was a matter of moments for William to deal with the terrified black-clad figures. After the fight ended, he took a deep breath and looked at the battlefield where they were fighting.

William soon turned his gaze.

His target was none other than Jin Cheongang.

He threw the blood-soaked sword on the ground and picked up the polearm that had fallen.

Now it was time to dive back into the battlefield.

He turned to Jin Cheongang, who was confronting the Sect Leader in the middle of the battlefield, and raised the polearm with one hand.

It was a bit heavy, but it was enough to enhance his strength by spreading aura throughout his body. Next, he coated the polearm with aura. The faintly spreading aura enveloped the polearm in a blue light.

he hurled the polearm towards Jin Cheongang.

The polearm, stirring the surrounding air with a terrifying sonic boom, flew straight towards Jin Cheongang.

Jin Cheongang belatedly noticed the flying polearm and used footwork to dodge the attack in surprise.

this inevitably created an opening.

It was a gap that was difficult to aim for unless one was an outstanding martial artist, but at the moment, a supreme expert swordsman was confronting Jin Cheongang.

He wasn’t one to miss this opportunity.

“Leader!”

At the black-clad figure’s shout, he came to his senses and raised his head to look up.

“Die, you demon cult dog.”

A wave of sword energy swept towards the black-clad figures.

The bodies of numerous black-clad figures were torn to shreds, creating a terrible hell on the hillside. The Sect Leader of the Haenam Sword Sect, the mastermind behind the living hell, glared at Jin Cheongang, whose right arm had been severed, with blazing eyes.

“Damn it…”

“Do you not know that taking your eyes off on the battlefield is no different from suicide? Such greenhorn bastards dared to target the Haenam Sword Sect…”

“What a failure…”

Lighting the fuse with one hand was practically impossible in this situation.

‘We lost.’

With the dozens of sword energy rays released by the Sect Leader, the front line collapsed. The remaining black-clad figures were exhausted and were being cleaned up by the disciples of the Haenam Sword Sect without being able to put up much resistance.

‘How futile…’

To think that the plan established over many years would end in failure.

He looked at the approaching foreigner with his fading consciousness.

‘I need to inform them about that person…’

The mysterious foreigner.

He had a strange feeling that the foreigner would become a big obstacle to their great cause.

“…Is that the Lightning Bomb?”

“…It is.”

He reaches out his remaining left arm to grab the arm of the foreigner trying to take the Lightning Bomb. But his arm wasn’t raised much and crashed to the ground.

‘He’s dead.’

William took his eyes off Jin Cheongang, whose breath had been cut off, and looked at Sect Leader Lin Habong. Seeing the few remaining demon cult martial artists, the sect leader opened his mouth.

“Thanks to you, we won without great sacrifice.”

“Don’t mention it.”

“We’ll talk later after we clean up the remaining ones.”

“I’ll help.”

The two figures flew towards the remnants of the demon cult.

It’s incredible what could be achieved when we have a smart MC that isn’t in a disadvantaged situation. While grit and tenacity are good for evoking emotions, a battle of wits coupled with action is a good alternative.
