“You bugs really don’t deserve to win.”

If it were just a game, a game that could be repeated countless times, I could do whatever I wanted, whether I lost or won, and just end it. But, with a bomb collar around my neck, and if I lose this game, if that bomb collar explodes? No matter how frustrating the situation, I can’t act irresponsibly.

“I intend to become a Priest.”

“Oh?”

“Unexpected.”

“Disappointing. With an aura like that, I thought you’d have the heart of a Warrior.”

A commotion erupted from the gods.

Seriously, what’s the fuss about just picking a class?

“Silence.”

The Chief God immediately quelled the uproar. Then, he spoke as if surprised.

“Do you truly intend to become a Priest?”

“Yeah, well…”

“Hmm. A bit unexpected.”

“Is it that unexpected?”

The Chief God stroked his chin and said, “We can see the aura emanating from living beings.”

“…Right, I don’t really know what that is, though.”

“Don’t think about it too hard. We can just see it, but in this space, you can see it too.”

“Me too?”

“Aren’t you seeing it right now? It seems your power is still insufficient to see its essence, but I’m talking about the light that envelops us.”

“Ah… these lights are auras?”

“Indeed. And an aura is like a power that describes a being, accumulated over a long time… As you can see, all the gods here have different auras, don’t they?”

I glanced at Themis, who was emitting a dizzying pink aura, and nodded.

“Honestly, the nature I read from your aura is… aggressive… I feel an energy commonly found in those with a strong competitive spirit. Frankly, it doesn’t seem like the altruistic personality suitable for a Priest…”

“That’s a false assumption. That’s a very offensive remark. I demand an apology.”

“…Quite a reaction.”

Huh. How can someone say such a thing?

If you were to choose the embodiment of altruism in the modern era, I would definitely be among them.

This body.

Number one in cumulative donations to Korean Odd Pro.

Of course, in the game, I did gobble up resources like CS (creep score) without yielding.

But I carried, didn’t I?

So, it’s all good.

“Then I will make you a Priest. You won’t change your mind?”

“No.”

“Even if you regret it, changing your class isn’t impossible if you offer us many deeds, but you must choose carefully.”

“I’m aware.”

My choice was firm.

Actually, I had been agonizing over the choice between a tanking Warrior and a buffing/healing Priest.

But after much deliberation, I chose Priest.

The first reason was that this is not a single-elimination game, but an MMORPG.

In genres other than RPGs, the position of supporting classes like Priests isn’t good.

To be precise, it’s closer to being a freeloader or a tool. It feels like you lack the confidence to face your opponent head-on and want to be carried by the team.

In Korea, there’s even a meme called “hyeji,” which combines this playstyle with “queen bee” players.

But that’s only the case in competitive games with automatic matchmaking.

In RPGs, like in the current situation, Priests become sacrificial, passive, and boring positions.

They’re essential, but there are few of them. That’s why Priest-type classes are treated like royalty in many RPG games.

In one game where their status became so elevated that they abused it terribly, the derogatory term “hols-arch” was used for a long time.

The second reason is… frankly, I don’t trust the other users.

Tanks, befitting their role, have high HP and are sturdy.

Although they have an important role, they are not the primary targets.

On the other hand, backline positions, especially ranged damage dealers who can create variables with their nuker tendencies, and healers who maintain the party’s sustainability, are the first targets for the enemy.

Judging from the current situation with the AIs, the chances of the AI being stupid when dealing with monsters or enemy NPCs seem low.

In games full of dumb AIs, tanks and those who act as links might be able to block them, but with human-like AIs, the backline is naturally the most exposed to danger.

The problem is, what if the healer’s head gets taken off in a decapitation strategy or assassination play?

It’s a different situation when one or two damage dealers die compared to when the healer responsible for sustainability dies.

This might be a game, but it’s a game with lives at stake.

A party without sustainability is highly likely to be wiped out.

Can I entrust such a vital role to an idiot?

Of course, that means I’ll be directly targeted, but…

‘If I die, I should consider it a situation where everyone else dies too.’

It’s better to see it as an unavoidable fate.

‘And although I can’t be sure, if I choose a Warrior or Knight type as a subclass, I might be able to use it like a Paladin.’

My role is to endure without dying until the very end while being the enemy’s target.

Based on common game knowledge, it’s better to aim for a Paladin type rather than a pure Warrior type.

“Priest. It’s certainly a good class. Actually, it’s a class I personally recommend, however…”

…Hm?

The moment the Chief God trailed off, the entire space filled with immense tension.

Huh?

What?

What’s going on…?

The Chief God sighed and opened his mouth.

“In the case of Priests, unlike other classes, you have to choose a god to serve from the beginning. Do you have a god in mind-?”

“Mememememememe!!! Kid! Me! How about me?”

“While I’m disappointed you’re not choosing me as a Warrior, even as a Priest, if you choose me-”

“I’ll… take good… care of you…”

“Heh heh… What a mess. Young one. Rather than those baseless ones, how about venerating me?”

“Do you desire power?”

“I thought the competition would be fierce, but this is insane.”

“…This situation is utterly vulgar. As gods, there’s not a shred of dignity to be seen.”

Before the Chief God could finish speaking, an explosive reaction erupted from those around him.

“Haah- I’m sorry. I anticipated this to some extent…”

“Uh… honestly, what’s going on?”

The Chief God sighed and continued his explanation.

“Originally, it’s not something I would tell you at this stage, but the reason we descend here when a hero chooses their main class is to look for promising candidates to appoint as our champions later.”

“…Uh… champions?”

“That’s right. As you might have guessed from our children’s words and my earlier explanation, after arriving in Elysium, we fought for supremacy, were defeated, and lost our territory. Gods are beings who grow stronger as they are revered and worshipped. Having been defeated and retreated, we have lost much of our divinity compared to our prime.”

“I see.”

“…Your attitude is somewhat irritating.”

But the world is merciless to losers.

Do you know how many “This guy’s washed up now, give me an upvote lol, me first” posts, along with clips of humiliating past plays, appear in the online galleries every time I lose at Worlds or MSI?

Back when I didn’t have such a perfect personality, I was quite hurt.

But what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.

With my perfect mentality and personality, I eventually overcame all those adversities and became a legend.

Sigh… I’m such a being.

Sometimes I feel sorry for the players who played in the same era as me.

Playing in the same era as me, a perfect being, must have been both an honor and a curse.

“What is it? I suddenly feel very unpleasant.”

The Chief God tilted his head mid-sentence.

Despite being a loser, it seems he’s quite perceptive as the Chief God.

“So, you’re looking for champions?”

“Hmm. If your champion gains renown, that’s how much faith we can gather.”

So, it’s like the relationship between sports teams and corporate sponsors.

“I see. That’s definitely my specialty.”

I played a significant role in raising the brand value of a relatively unknown pro team by associating them with the image of a “winning team.”

“Oh… You speak as if you have experience.”

“Yes, well, that’s what I did in the other world.”

“Indeed!”

“No wonder his aura and achievements are extraordinary.”

“He was the champion of a god in the other world!”

“Hey, hero. Even now, give up on the idea of becoming a Priest and take up the sword. You are worthy of becoming this body’s great warrior.”

“A treasure too great for a brainless brute.”

“What was that?”

“Seems like you’re deaf too. I said it’s too much for you.”

Honestly, it’s a bit different, but whatever. The work seems similar.

I didn’t correct the Pantheon NPCs’ misunderstanding. It’s not my fault they made their own assumptions.

As the gods began to quarrel again, the Chief God sighed and said.

“Since you’re going to become a Priest, you don’t really need to think about it too deeply. Do you have a god in mind?”

“Mememememememe!!! Kid. If you choose me, I’ll do everything in my power to make you pretty!”

“You have no sense of chastity for a goddess. A vulgar woman like that is not worth serving. Choose me.”

“What did you say, you muscle-brained barbarian?”

Ignoring the gods who started fighting again, I stated my request.

“If possible, I’d like to serve a god who specializes in healing or related blessings.”

“Hmm…”

“Hey, hero. Attack is more important than healing or whatever. Just kill the opponent before they get hurt. Choose me. I’ll give you the blessing of strength!”

“A man needs charm! With my blessing of charm, no woman will be able to escape you. All the beauties in the world will only have eyes for you!”

…Honestly, Themis’s offer was quite tempting.

The blessing of charm, and more importantly, what did she mean by “make you pretty” with all her power?

“I recommend the Goddess of the Hearth, Hespada.”

While reason and my libido, full of frustration from never having experienced anything in my soon-to-be 30 years of life, battled within my mind, the Chief God spoke.

“Hespada. Step forward.”

Following the Chief God’s words, a god sitting by one of the pillars stood up and approached.

Ah, a Hestia-like one is appearing, huh. Still, I feel like priest is a bit of a weird choice, no? It’s understandable he wouldn’t choose DPS for the sake of balance, but at the end of the day no matter how good your healing is you can’t win if the tanks and DPS suck, and if you’re concerned about the priests getting targeted then just become a tank so you can cover for them.

In my opinion his reasoning is sound, he can keep the tanks and damage dealers alive along with the fact that he was gonna be the coach of a E-sports team so he can teach the others in anything they’re lacking. I’m assuming its not that hard to keep a resilient idiot alive, but if a low hp character acts recklesly, they’re bound to be dead almost immediately without a good support; shields, heals, support spells in general, timing and resource managment in a big party are things better left to a pro.

He could’ve ask to them if they woudl have a class that has all of that, like a paladin, having DMG, Tank and Heal skills
