It’s big. And pretty.

I quickly scanned the other person, my gaze lingering only for a brief moment before I answered.

“Are you in a hurry? You haven’t chosen a class yet either, Luna.”

“Wow, how did you know? Are you a stalker? That’s a little scary, you know?”

“…”

“Ah, I’m just kidding, just kidding. Don’t ignore me because I misspoke.”

The person who approached was Shionji Luna, an internet streamer who participated as a special guest, cosplaying as Princess Link, just like me.

Her nickname was Lunatan, right?

It wasn’t that I tried to memorize it, but I had heard it when people who seemed to be Luna’s fans called out to her while I was trying to gather information.

I ignored Luna and watched as the user who chose Kunoichi exited and the next user entered.

That was the 89th person.

Including Luna, there were 18 people left in front of me, not including myself.

“What’s the reason for waiting without choosing a class?”

Luna asked again when I didn’t answer.

An internet streamer.

And one who was noticeable enough that it wouldn’t be strange at all if she became famous.

About half of the people who had already chosen their classes had left this place, where they had no business being any longer, guided by the NPCs. However, there were still quite a few people remaining, including those who hadn’t chosen their classes yet.

Perhaps that was why the occasional glances in my direction were a bit annoying.

“Why are you waiting, Luna?”

“…I don’t think it’s good to answer a question with a question!”

Luna puffed out her cheeks and made a “Pupu” sound.

…Do Japanese girls usually act like this? Or is it because she’s an internet streamer and has good reactions?

As the attention of those around us became more blatant due to her slightly excessive behavior, I sighed and said.

“I’ll answer if you tell me first.”

“I don’t know if it’s because you’re a top-ranked professional gamer, but you really hate losing, huh?”

Usually, people would just pretend to lose in this situation.

Grumbling, Luna opened her mouth honestly.

“Because Kid-nim hasn’t chosen yet.”

“…You’re watching me?”

“I don’t know for sure, but there’s a reason you’re not choosing, right?”

“…”

“I wasn’t lying at the showcase when I said I’m your fan. As far as I know, there’s no better gamer than Kid-nim. That’s why… I thought there must be a reason why you’re not choosing.”

She’s perceptive.

And she has excellent taste.

But that kind of lip service is easy to give.

“My opponent at the 2033 Worlds Finals.”

“…?”

“You said you’re a fan. If you are, you should know.”

“…”

She falls silent at my words.

As I thought, she was just trying to use her charms to fish for information.

It wasn’t a big deal, I could have told her. But it was a completely different story if I looked foolish enough to fall for such a clumsy honey trap.

…Still, it stings a little.

“…Okay.”

“Hmm?”

“You didn’t make it to the finals in 2033. You lost to the Chinese team ERG 3-2 in the semifinals, and you were crying there.”

“…That’s a pretty famous story.”

“So, do I pass?”

“My opponent and record at the 2036 Worlds Finals.”

“Won 3:1 against the Chinese team TG.”

“My opponent at the 2035 MSI semifinals.”

“3:0 against the European team K9.”

“Hmm.”

“Do I pass?”

Luna asked, grinning confidently as she answered without hesitation.

“Even if you’re not a fan, this shows dedication.”

I scratched my head and opened my mouth.

“24 Samurai, 15 Ninja and Kunoichi, 24 Mage-type, 9 Warrior-type, 5 Fighter-type, 6 Archer-type, 6 Priest-type.”

“Huh?”

“A total of 89. That’s the number of classes people have chosen so far.”

“…You were counting all of that?”

She makes a dumbfounded expression.

But it’s important.

I replied with a straight face.

“It might be important. In fact, it turned out exactly as I was worried about.”

“What do you mean it turned out as you worried?”

“Don’t you hear and feel it?”

At my words, Luna bowed her head and thought quietly.

“…There are too many damage dealers?”

“It seems you’ve grasped the characteristics of the classes to some extent.”

“I like games. I wouldn’t have been invited as a guest to a game show if I didn’t.”

Luna boasted, proudly puffing out her chest.

For a moment, my gaze was almost pulled in by the law of universal gravitation, but I managed to dodge it with my veteran physical prowess.

“But I don’t know about Ninja and Kunoichi, but isn’t Samurai considered a Warrior-type class?”

“We need a more detailed classification.”

“Detailed classification?”

“Based on the explanations given to those who chose their classes, I’ve temporarily categorized them. If I had to define Samurai, they lean towards being melee pure damage dealers or nukers. However, the classes that belong to the Warrior-type are closer to bruisers.”

“…Nuker? Bruiser…?”

“Think of them as a class that deals explosive damage and a class that marks and harasses the opponent’s key characters.”

“…Huh.”

This girl didn’t understand at all.

I sighed and continued my explanation.

“In the case of mages, they are versatile depending on the situation… Honestly, they could take on various roles as jack-of-all-trades, but for now, the proportion of damage dealers is excessively high.”

“Uh… is that a problem?”

“Who knows?”

“…What?”

“We don’t know what format this game will take yet, and we’re only at the class selection stage.”

“That’s a pretty vague answer for someone who seemed so confident.”

“Depending on the game, it’s possible to clear it with a party full of damage dealers. However…”

I crossed my arms, leaned against the wall, and looked around as I spoke.

“If it’s not that kind of game, if it’s a traditional MMORPG, we’ll need a party with a good balance of various classes.”

“So, what are you saying…?”

“It means that if you just pick a class because it looks cool, you could be abandoned. To form a party with the right composition, there will be a limited number of slots for each position.”

“…Ah.”

“Still, it seems like the people who seem sociable are forming their parties before choosing their classes.”

Four teams.

Two priests were wildcards, but the other four seemed to have decided from the start to be dedicated supporters for each party.

These people were aware of the gravity of the situation and were cooperative.

Or maybe the party leaders were the kind of people who could inspire confidence even in a short conversation.

Either way, they were excellent individuals that I kept an eye on.

“No way!”

Luna suddenly screamed, drawing everyone’s attention.

“Why are you suddenly shouting like that?”

“No way! This is really bad if we mess this up!”

“That’s how it goes in a classic MMORPG.”

“Why are you so calm! And why didn’t you tell anyone before?”

“Would they have listened if I did?”

Luna hesitated at my words.

“People right now, while thinking of this as a game, are also aware that this isn’t a normal situation, from the sensations to the inability to log out. It’s a game, but we could die if we’re not careful.”

I crossed my arms and wagged my finger as I continued.

“We don’t know what kind of game this is, what its purpose is, how to get out, or even if this is another world, as a joke. In this situation, the class we choose now is the most important tool for our survival.”

“…That’s true.”

“Some fools might be delusional, thinking they’re the main characters of a novel and choose flashy damage dealers or classes that just look cool, but it’s a normal psychological response to want to choose a class that will allow you to survive on your own in any situation.”

With those words, I pointed my chin towards the portal.

One user came out holding a weapon.

A katana.

Samurai.

25 of them. I counted in my head.

Honestly, there was no need to count at this point.

“In a typical MMORPG, damage dealers can often hunt alone if they lower the level of their hunting grounds a bit. Well… To be honest, I’m just assuming that’s why those who chose damage-dealing classes made that decision. It would be troublesome if most of them chose their classes just because they looked cool, with the balance of the party composition already broken.”

“Hmm…”

Luna’s face turned red.

…It was clear that she was just watching because I hadn’t chosen a class yet, and if I hadn’t been here, she probably would have just picked randomly.

At least she’s perceptive, that’s a relief.

“Divorce is common even among people who met through love. So what kind of trust can there be between people who just met at a showcase? It’s a relationship that could fall apart at any moment. If you try to decide on a position while thinking about the time when the party might disband because things aren’t going well, you’ll only be left with dependent and passive classes. Usually, it will feel like you’re making a sacrifice. ‘Usually’.”

“…You’re certainly not ordinary, Kid-nim.”

“Thank you for the compliment.”

“I didn’t mean it entirely as a compliment, but honestly, I feel a little reassured.”

“I wouldn’t go that far.”

As I shrugged, Luna chuckled.

“So, you were waiting to choose a class with a lower number of people.”

“That’s correct.”

“…Then, are only Priest-type classes left?”

“To be precise, Priest-type and Warrior-type classes are left.”

“Warrior-type? Aren’t there already enough people who can take on that role?”

“There’s a big difference between a pure tank and a sub-tank who can also tank. In the MMORPGs I’ve played, tanks were more valuable than healers, let alone incompetent damage dealers. Usually, in large-scale raids, the main tank would often be the raid leader.”

“Then… what class are you going to choose, Kid-nim?”

“Well…”

I stroked my chin and thought.

As expected, they all chose damage dealers like the DPS obsessed fools they are.

The position ratio was already completely broken.

Whether I chose a Warrior or a Priest, forming a party wouldn’t be that difficult.

Especially in genres like AOS games, these support classes are treated like spoons or tools, but in the RPG genre, they’re clearly nobles.

‘But Warrior wouldn’t be such a bad choice either.’

I wasn’t sure if it was a bug, but I had a lot of stat points.

If I strengthened myself with those stat points, I might be able to become a sturdy wall for the party up to a certain level and minimize casualties in this crazy game.

While Priests could strengthen with buffs and heal wounds, they couldn’t protect.

Because healing implies there will be wounds.

Finally making up my mind, I slowly opened my mouth.

“I…”

Probably not priest, right? As much as people rep the white mage and such, the bare facts in a situation like this are that you’re at the mercy of your teammates in a lot of ways that you wouldn’t be in an actual mmorpg.

If there was something like Paladin I’d 100% go for that. It varies from game to game, but they’re usually capable of being built as a tank, support, or nuker. I really hope he does go for tank, because those are pretty rare in books like this
